Joseph was directed to flee to Egypt in a dream and also told in a dream not to return to Judea but to go to Nazareth. In the OT we are told young men will see visions and old men will dream dreams. I certainly believe this.My question is ;does God still give leadership in dreams and if so how do you discern what is Gods leadership and what is fantasy?

You have to compare the dream with Scripture. If it goes against the Bible, it isn't from God.

the vast majority of my dreams have been pepperoni pizza enduced...

We think of a dream as a vision we have in our sleep. When we wake up it sometimes isn't even a memory.

A dream, however, is also defined as "an ideal, aspiration or ambition..." As an ideal, aspiration or ambition, I certainly believe in dreams, and I do believe that God can speak to us in this fashion. Just be careful it doesn't become a nightmare.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I had a very unusual one last night, in color type, was regards to flying things crashing to the ground. I was taking cover with someone else as they were crashing all about us.

Must have eating something I guess as I can't relate it to anything Biblical. :)

Odd someone should post about this today though.

46 years old, do I qualify lol.

Right, always use Scripture as the standard!!! Only I think mine are enduced by certain kinds of ice cream. Great to eat at night right? I usually don't remember my dreams as well as my wife, so I'm always asking her what she ate before going to bed.:thumbsup:

My wife once told me she had a dream that she was wrestling with a rubber dog while snorkeling. Well, what would you make of that? Indicative of our marriage maybe? :)

    Now that's funny!

I believe that God uses his word to show us what he wants us to know. In biblical times he did use visions, but if you think about it, the Bible hadn't been fully written. They had the law and the prophets back then.

I believe God does work through dreams, and has done so in my life.

How do I know the difference between that and fantasy? It's really simple. The dream is plain and I wake up knowing exactly what I should do. The few times it has happened, it has been very specific. For example, before I had to move unexpectedly once, I dreamed I had to move unexpectedly and woke up knowing the dream meant that I should prepare to go.

It's really that simple. When I was a single mother I prayed for those types of dreams and guidance so that I would best be able to take care of my kids during unexpected circumstances. They only came during times when I severely needed them and didn't have anyone to help me through stuff. I honestly think that God was "invoking" the Father to Fatherless clause. :) I now have someone in authority over me in this family and someone acting as Father to the kids, so I'm guessing that the dreaming thing is over. God provided them with a Father here on earth. yay!

As an old Puritan once said, if it agrees with the Scripture it's needless. If it doesn't it's false.

I do not know how to tell you how to remember your dreams but maybe it would help if you remember your wife if she wore a name tag in bed that has her name and says wife in parenthesis:laugh:

Anybody ever awakened in the middle of the night during a dream that is very vivid? I would always think that I would remember it in the AM, but usually couldn't remember anything except that I had a dream.

Also have you ever had a thought during a "wake-up" in the middle of the night, that you were absolutely certain would alter the course of mankind? I read of a guy that did this constantly, but could never remember what the thought was. After a while he wised up and kept a pad & pen by his bed so he could record the revelation when it happened.

He woke up one morning and remembered that last night was one of the "thought" nights.

He looked at his recorded earth-shaking revelation and read:

"The whole universe is permeated by the odor of turpentine!"

He decided that the mid-night thoughts weren't worth recording anymore.

God has a way to confirm His own messages to the messengers.

"OT we are told young men will see visions and old men will dream dreams."

As long as they aren't God's messengers, God may not give them a comfirmation. They dream visions about God's truth. They may also dream prophetically about God's truth. God doesn't need to confirm them that those dreams are from Him.

I think that to His messengers, a prophetic dream can be confirmed. It's more or less like a puzzle with one half of the contents in dreams and the other half in reality as a confirmation.

For example, you dream of a note with characters "ands". The other day you happen to pick up a piece of broken paper with characters 'comm' on it. Then you may figure out 'comm' + 'ands' = 'commands'. So it indicates God sent you a command in your dreams.

Alternatively, you may have dreamed of a unique sign which you never saw in your life. The other day you see the same sign in reality. And some messages are placed together with the sign in reality, you may realise that those messages together with the sign may have a connection with the contents of your dreams. At the same time, you know that they are from God. Something to that effect.

    Acts 14:3
So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to do miraculous signs and wonders.

I agree with you. Sadly, there are Christians out there who actually claim to have the "gift" of dream interpretation and do this for other believers, probably misleading them.

I think if God does guide people through dreams today the person would know it was from God without any doubt, and would know the meaning. If you have to wonder if it's from God or can't tell what it means, it's not from God. It's too easy to read meaning into things like dreams.
