Here is an interesting article linked on Drudge this morning regarding people's dress as they visited President Reagan's coffin. In light of some of the discussion we have had on dressing for church, it is an interesting secular take on dress and respect.

There is one thing about this article. Washington DC was and is in the middle of blistering heat. Most of these mourners are having to wait 2 and 3 hours to get in to pay their respects. They are not being chuffered in limo's and so on. They have taken time, and traveled from all OVER the country to pay their respects to a man they thought was a wonderful president. I'm sorry but I applaude them for having the gumption to make the long trip and wait in the heat. And, I personally do not think that he cares if they are barefoot. I think that he is greatful they came at all.

Is it possible for someone to put a direct link to the article or perhaps copy and paste it?

I watched CSPAN (thankfully with no comments by inane anchors who feel they must say something every minute) and the crowds at the Capitol.

While some were dressed more like a stroll along the beach, most were appropriate in demeanor. It was NOT a formal event, but a paying tribute.

95F, 95% humidity and 4.2 hour average wait? Happy they hadn't keeled over wearing anything at all.
