That is irrelevant to this business deal between P&O and DP World.

I don't care about the business deal between P&O and DP world. They can make deals all the day long just as long as DP world isn't in charge of our ports. And our president shouldn't be making under the table deals for his cronies (two linked to his administration) and his one world global vision of free world trade (MEFTA), if that's what he's doing and I believe he is, when it comes to national security issues.

Besides, if DP World is owned by the Royal Family (government) of the UAE, then the article I posted is very relevent to their doing business in this country with security issues.

    1) DP World will not be in charge of the ports or security any more than P&O has been.

    2) Do you have evidence that President Bush influenced P&O's decision to sell their business at these ports to DP World?

I have been listening to a lot calls on C-SPAN on this issue and the neo-isolationism that many Americans are exhibiting is quite scary.

    I think neo-isolationism is wonderful.

I have heard lots of folks say that only American companies should do management at the terminals at our ports. If we required that then we would have to basically shut our ports down and neither import or export anything.

This is not 1939. The marketplace is now global.

What bearing does who manages the terminals at our ports have on what is imported or exported, for crying out loud? That is a ridiculous statement, but if you can convince me otherwise, I'm willing to listen to your facts - just because I'm a reasonable person. ;)

Again, where was the concern over companies from Singapore and China managing US ports?

It is my understanding that all of our terminals at all of our major ports are pretty much operated by non-U.S. companies. Thus, my point is that without the foreign companies managing the terminals how will the work get done if there are no U.S. companies who do that kind of work?

Again, I ask, where is the furor over ports that are managed by companies in Singapore and China? No where to be found, it appears. Additionally, the security of ports is not managed by these companies, or any of the other companies that manage ports. They're managed by Homeland Security. </font>[/QUOTE]Long since forgotten Johnv. People threw a fit when Bill Clinton tried to make a port deal with China in Long Beach California. COSCO.

They huffed and they puffed and turned in their bed but Clinton persisted till Long Beach turned red.

I don't know about Singapore. I'll have to check that out thanks.

Anybody happen to catch the Lou Dobbs reportage on this deal?

That's for security. What DP World is handling is scheduling.

And with the DP scheduling, comes thousands of visas coming to this country who are all going to be meticulously screened for terrorist ties, of course.

And also with the DP scheduling comes information they will be privvy to, concerning security measures, inside operations, etc., of course.

    Why's that?

The anti-Arab hystery over this makes me very sad. Maybe we should remove Lady Liberty from New York harbor. I am afraid we are quickly changing from the Land of the Free to the Land of the Fearful.

I'm starting to wonder how many Americans check under their bed at night to see if an Arab is there.

And apparently Christians aren't any better than worldlings in this regard.

Don't worry, she'll be destroyed one day by some jihadi or a Chinese nuke blowing up in New York harbor that you want to willingly turn over in the name of a global economy.

Didn't you see Planet of the Apes?

I feel very, very sorry for you, LadyEagle. You animosity toward Arabs is really sad to witness on a Christian board. [IMG]

I'm still waiting for your explanation why you think it is a good thing for our ports to be outsourced to other nations. Halliburton could do the job and no doubt there are other American companies that could handle it. One good thing about the controversy is that the American public is being made aware about some of our security that is being outsourced to foreign nations, a fact that I didn't know before now and no doubt others didn't know until now either.

No other nation should be in charge of our ports for any reason. And it seems a lot of Americans agree with me.

Ken, my animosity is not towards Arabs, and that is a false charge you are making. My animosity is towards islam and I make no apology for that.

If you don't stop attacking me personally and refuse to debate the issue, I will close this thread. You brought up the topic, now please stick with the topic. I would like you to list the reasons why you believe outsourcing our ports is a good idea and not a threat to our national security.

That is a false charge. DP World is not replacing the Coast Guard, Homeland Security, or Customs.
