When you first started using the BB, what sticks out in your mind?

For me it was Barnabas, Dr Bob, and Helen offering me warm words of welcome. Also, I remember reading a thread Saggy started on panty hose.

It was Clint... Robert... Jeff and I in the Baptist History Forum... In our own little baptist world talking about the beauties of the our baptist ancestors in a civilized gentlemanly and christian attitude... Listening and sharing without judging each other. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't say the same thing. Meeting them first set the stage for the others to follow... Helen... Barnabas... and Dr. Bob just to name a few. It must have done some good because I am now moderator... Then again maybe Brother Clint is getting back at me ;) ... Just kidding [IMG] ... Brother Glen Of The Primitive Baptist Brethren [IMG]

It was a sorta rough landing. Dr. Bob slammed me pretty good. I thought Joseph was my dad. Joy was really sweet. I think most everyone else just didn't know what to think. Probably still don't. [IMG]

I remember being blown away by rlvaughn in the history forum, finding out Tina and I have a local connection, and meeting Bro. Glen, my first Primitive Baptist.

Until I got here, I had no idea what KJVO was. What an eye opener.

Have to agree with Bro. Glen about the History Forum, with Robert and Clint. Very enjoyable conversation.

Some many years ago when I was ordained, some of my non-Primitive Baptist relatives asked what I was doing preaching for such a narrow-minded sect. This board has enlightened me that this isn't the case. In fact I think we may be one of the more tolerant. It has led me to be more at peace with my own church, and strengthened my convictions.

I have encountered others besides Glen, Robert and Clint that I would like to meet in person for what I think would be pleasant conversation -- RSR, Abiyah, Katie B 007, Wisdom Seeker, Saggy Woman, Joshua Villines, Johnv, Jim1999, Eph 1:4, Jimmy Edwards, Adam and Teresa, to name a few.

Those that I wouldn't want to meet on a dark night, will remain nameless, but there are a few.

Mostly, however, it has been a positive experience, but probably not in the way one might consider.

The history forum is, by and large, visited by folks who either have a sincere question or are patient in providing answers. It's a very civil place, and I encourage more people to drop by.

The discussions have been very enlightening and forced me to do research that I wouldn't have attempted otherwise.

My early memeories include much help from Aaron,Dr. Bob Griffin,Superdave,Joy,and Keeper of the home....We were struggling with some major things, like church, deciding whether or not to homeschool, and other various things...I was encouraged greatly by these kind people.

Then because we were building our home and had other things going on,I did not post for a long while...when I came back on board I met some new folks that I really respect and have helped me grow stronger in God's Word, these would include those I mentioned earlier and my new friends Preach The Word,Pastor Larry,Siegfried,Clint K,Margie,Don,Tyndale,SBCbyGrace(even though we do not agree on much, you have encouraged me,I think  )

I have also grown to appreciate Refreshed,HCL,Gina,Helen,Olive Branch in my most recent readings here.

I can always laugh at and with Saggywoman(although I can not always tell when she is kidding or serious) I appreciate the honesty and realness of many here. [IMG]

    Much Love to all!

Hey Im glad to see someone misses me

I got a real job, so I don't have as much time to sit around and reveal my massive intellect to y'all

At first it was like a MBBC reunion, and I don't know where all the rest of ya came from, but It is fun to talk to so many of you from different areas and talk about what we have in common.

    Jesus Christ.

Although we seem to spend more time talking about the extra-biblical parts of our Baptist religion.

I have been really challenged by some new friends in my walk with God, and have also appreciated the encouragement of many of you here on the board as well.

I am so glad that Jesus paid my debt, and I am so humbled that he has chosen me to be one on whom his favor rests.

Keep up the good work everybody! [IMG]

    LOL! Ok.
It was a cool June night. Stars shone brightly across a gentle breeze, and I let out a sigh of relief as I realized the children had fallen asleep.
I fluffed up my pillow and settled in bed,
While memories of Baptist Board danced in my head.
When from my PC there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter!
Away to my desktop I flew like a flash
Clicked on the power, signed on with a dash
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a General forum with 8 brand new posts there!
I clicked every one and read all the hype
Scarcely believing what my eyes saw in type
Dr. Bob had just typed it, what could it be?
He told me I was being a big Pharisee!
"I know that I'm not" was my humblest plea
But he only reacted by posting in Theology!
"This forums a book for the scholars in here
We don't need blank pages", he said with a sneer.
I sadly withdrew then in anger and shame
Turned off the PC after I called him a name
Glad that I'd gave him a piece of my mind
Then woke in the morning wondering what I would find.
I went to the board so lively and quick
To find the old man got in the last lick
With dread sense of humor he'd answered my claim
Then knowing he'd won gave me more of the same!
By then his sarcasm was so easy to see
I hadn't seen it because he was acting like ME!
I'd thought I was only one of a kind
Who knew that on here was another I'd find
Who understood usage of sarcasm and irony
I quickly forgave him and now look at me!

Whew. That was way too much thinking for 8:30 am! LOL

Why did I join the Baptistboard? Fellowship in the Lord. This I have found on the board, and it comes from all different directions.

Names? I guess I could name everyone. A few do stand out, but I do not wish to name anyone...I know that someone would be left out, and that would bother me.

The important thing is that all have demonstrated their desire to know the Lord, and isn't that all that really matters.

My thanks for the Webmaster who made this Board possibly, that this old man in the shadows of life, may enjoy such marvellous fellowship, even if it is only on written page.

Cheers, and God richly bless all,

    Jim

Thanks for the opportunity to stroll down memory lane! [IMG]

Well, I remember way back when there was water all over the face of the earth, and only a small ark was rolling back and forth on the gentle waves of the Internet. It was back on June 20, 2000, when the BB first opened and a handful of the folks helped feed the live stock alongside good ol' Noah (also known as the Webmaster). Although I read every post there was, each and every day (for there were only a few forums to begin with), I did not join right away - only when the waters have receded. Here is a list of those early ones who joined the BaptistBoard.com:

da Gina, since you failed to post any of the emoticons, I have to confirm it by asking if you were serious? What a heated debates we had, way back, with Brother Polycarp. But to answer your question, I did save a few of the Private Messages I had with him - if that counts. ;)

Gina is a big fat liar. Liar, liar, pants on fire. Nose as long as a telephone wire.

But other than that . .

Actually remember very little of the "good old days". Selective amnesia, comes with age.

SuperDave emailed me (his uncle) and told me about this site where Baptists could really "talk" about a variety of issues. Being mouthy and overly opinionated on subject of all sort (whether I actually know something about it or not) I jumped at the chance.

And just look at the number of posts since. All of which fit into the above criteria . . .

Oh, Gina, your response was priceless!

My early memories include that this was the first board I ever joined. It took a while for me to even post. But I sure learned alot! Wow, KJVO? and more that one kind of Baptist?

I remember Joy who was so wonderful with us ladies. And Gina always had great responses. And Saggywoman was a lot of fun. And Barnabus, and Griff and all the "old timers" ;)

I still have lots of notes from here that I saved on topics I wanted to study more. I come her to help me get the "real" truth from the "right" perspective.

I just have to say thanks to you all.

Yes, I was serious Barnabas. They were pretty wild, but also filled with some good information by those who responded. I figured some people may have saved them and they'd be fun/interesting to read again, although it's not any big deal to me one way or another if they exist or not. [IMG]

Gina, when you come down to the nitty gritty, Polycarp had a lot of useful information. His website is quite informative, and he has a lot of good stuff in there for the serious Bible student. However, his delivery was somewhat wanting, and if he got into the heat of things there was no stopping. Eventually somebody had to give, and it was not a pretty sight - just as you said.
