Elect does not mean "saved at birth"

True. He does that in earlier chapters though. On reflections, Romans 1 really paints the picture better than our words can. It gives an idea about what was going on.

    Regarding the OP:
1Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, 2who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood:
Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

God's foreknowledge wouldn't seem to bring salvation to an individual, only that God knows who will choose salvation and who will not. I'd say that the person still has to choose it. God chose to use me for His glory, but I didn't say "Your will be done Lord" at first... I tried to argue and fight him off for a few years first! Of course, I still have the choice to walk away from the faith. Only God knows all things.

Maybe... He chooses to love us (which is expressed by Christ) but we still need to choose to live for Him in acceptance of His gift if we want salvation.

mmets, I enjoy your perspectives and hope your education will continue along those lines so you can get out front and pastor the flock!

    Love your testimony, too.

THis is halfway true. This by itself is really false but this along with the fact that God gives us a new heart to WANT Him, then you could say it is totally true.

Russ makes a good point --- infants are justified according to innocence until they sin. Therefore, all infants who die go to heaven including those who, when resurrected, will not believe on Christ in the MK.

However, it is true that "elect" infants will live to be old enough to receive Christ during their lifetimes. This was already foreseen and predestined by God to happen.

Yes indeedy. You speak the truth. The ones who are conscious of their sins are the ones Christ has willed to reveal Himself to.

Ha,Ha. It's been a lot longer than 4 years! It's just that that Arminian spin on the passage has to be dealt with.

Only those who listen and learn from the Father through Jesus will come. He will not reveal Himself to those who don't listen and learn. Those are the people who will come, not those who depend on their own understanding, but God. Praise Jesus for His words of life.
