    Election of the Messiah

Really at the basis of any human being being elect is the election of Christ Himself .

Isaiah 42:1 -- Here is my servant , whom I uphold , my chosen one in whom I delight .
Isaiah 43:10 -- ...my servant whom I have chosen
    Ps . 89:3 -- .. I have made a covenant with my chosen one ...
89:19 ... I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
80:17 ... I was appointed from eternity , from the beginning , before the world began .
1 Cor. 1:24 ... Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God .
Acts 2:23 -- This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge
    4:27 -- ... Your holy servant Jesus , whom you annointed [ predestined ]
1 Peter 1:20 -- He was chosen [ preordained ] before the foundation of the world .
2:4 --... the living stone ... chosen by God
    2:6 --... a chosen and precious cornerstone .
Rev. 13:8 b --... the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world .

using bits and pieces of verses only shows that you know how to type bits and pieces of verses. It absolutely does not support any doctrine at all.

All Bible-believers believe in election. So what is trying to be proved in this thread?

There ya go, Rip. There it is in black and white. Bible does not support any doctrine at all! Better go back to "logic" and "philosophy" with the "biblicists".

Helen I'm sure you're a nice person and I wouldn't offend you for the world, but blogs are public forum and I'm going to use your statement in my blog www.arminiansayings.blogspot.com
The title of my blog is "Did You Hear What You Said?" And, did you?

Put me there too J.D I agree with Helen. As a matter of fact Rippon has a rep of just pasteing. I would not put much stock in the fact he says this is HIS work.

It's not Rippon's work. It's God's Word. And it is to your own peril if you ignore it in favor of your own personal philosophy.

In that case, JD, please also say that I have said time and again (I have been on BB for years and others can testify that I am telling you the truth here) that context defines the verse and Bible explains Bible. That is why you cannot take snippets of verses and try to prove anything by them. You have to read the context and associated passages.

Example: my mother is dead now, but for many years she was carrying on with a married man in the town I grew up in. She was part of Unity School of Christianity (which is most definitely NOT Christian) and so not only informed me that this man and she had been married in a previous life, and therefore this was not adultery, but that the Bible itself says "God is love," and therefore all was OK with God.

That is what happens when you only take snippets of verses out and try to establish a doctrine from them.

Now, I am curious, how honest is your blog going to be?

Helen don't count on him putting that on there. It shows how wrong he was. We all seem to agree its context up till now and it seems once again the calvinist have change the rules. You go npet and J.D. !   [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

You can't even take another person's plain quote at face value, but even rip that to pieces contextually. Be honest, and quote what Helen REALLY said.

I don't have to put anything on my blog that I don't want to put there. That's because I own it - it's mine to do as I please. I'm the proprietor. Even Wesley recognized the same about God:

    Wesley's comments on Romans 9:21:

God, as sovereign Lord and Proprietor of all, dispenses his gifts or favours to his creatures with perfect wisdom, but by no rules or methods of proceeding that we are acquainted with.

But unfortunatley, that's as close to a proper exigesis of Romans 9 as Wesley ever got. It falls straight off from there.

To JD, Well, it appears that
    1. You do have a choice about things you do
    and
    2. Your character is not showing Christ in you at all.

You appear to be the sort of mocker that Psalm 1 warns us all to stay away from.

Web, I believe Helen was implying that Rippon 60+ references had not established any context on which to establish bible doctrine. Tell then, how DOES one establish a context for doctrine?

If I recited the entire new testament, with commentary to "give the sense" of the words, you, with your established template, would reply "but that's not what it means." Here's the routine:

Elect: That's not what it means.

Predestined: That's not what it means.

Chosen: That's not what it means.

Born from Above: That's not what it means.

I haved hated: That's not what it means.

I haved loved: That's not what it means.

were ordained: That's not what it means.

they were appointed: That's not what it means.

what thy hand and counsel had determined before to do: That's not what it means.

Predeterminate counsel of God: That's not what it means.

Foreknowledge: Should be "foresight", has nothing to do with love.

I know the template, cause I preached it for years.
