As I understand it, the premillenial second coming of Christ was not a "popular" Christian view even among non-Catholics until the mid 1800's.

It appears that as more and more errors crept into the Christian church - and it eventually evolved into catholicism, the move to reform that church did not easily leave off all the errors that had sprouted up over time.

No one should be afraid of a label like Premillennial theology and the label is unimportant as long as a person understands what the Bible lays down as truth.

Much of we are learning through avid study was inadvertently lost because of the overpowering influence of St. Augustine and John Calvin. The apostles knew the truth and now we do also.

Historic Premillennialism has had adherents from the early days of the study of eschatology. Dispensational Premillennialism showed up about 1830.

 

Some studies show that in the early 1800's Christians with "premillenial" views (2nd coming BEFORE the 1000 years) were very - very few in number. Even among non-RC Christians in the US.

Postmillennialism pretty much ruled in eschatology in the 1800s in the U.S.

 

What was the Catholic church teaching about it back then? Post Millenial or A-Millenial?
