    Lead poisoning? Surely not?

    ----------------------------------------

LOS ANGELES (AFX) - The State of California and the City of Los Angeles are suing Coca-Cola Co, seeking to stop distribution here of Coca-Cola made in Mexico because of concern about its alleged lead content.

The lawsuit alleges that elevated levels of lead have been detected in the paint used to decorate the outside of glass Coca-Cola bottles, and in the cola itself.

    1. It relates to Coca-Cola bottled in Mexico which does not have our Health Standards and for which no US Inspectors are present to maintain surveilance...

    2. 'Detectable' levels?

OK, but what levels are those levels and how do they compare to the Stadards set by the US Government?

Granted Zero detectable would be ideal. But, at what point is it dangerous to consume? At what cost is the next reduction level reached?

    3. With the right instruments just about every product sold in the US has *some* detectable hazardous material in it...

But, I dare say, that even in the sanctity of your own home, with an advanced degree, and with the laboratory equipment, you, too, would have trouble eliminating all health risks...

From the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
    http://www.epa.gov/air/urbanair/lead/hlth.html
People, animals, and fish are mainly exposed to lead by breathing and ingesting it in food, water, soil, or dust. Lead accumulates in the blood, bones, muscles, and fat. Infants and young children are especially sensitive to even low levels of lead.

Even low levals can be dangerous especially as it accumulates in the system.
It is something to be concerned about.
What about the glass bottles being produced in the U.S.? Does the U.S. still produce glass bottles for Coke?
