    Historic simply refers to that which was 'historically' a mainline view of the Church during various times or at all times, BUT it can also be used to describe an early view that has changed over time.

    Example. Both Amil and Pre-mil can be said to be historic but there is a distinction as to when they were historic. Pre-mil held for the first 3 centuries and Amil began as a predominantly Church held view in the mid 4th.

    However another example is this:
    The pre-mil (rapture before the Mill-Kingdom) held to a Post Trib view or that the believers would be raptured at the end of the Tribulation. However what most hold today is an adaptation of the Historic view with a Pre and mid rapture view as just some examples. This view is known as a Dispensational Pre-millennialist view or for short Dispensationalism.

    HI D.A.S.
    You said this was the first futurist;
    Francisco Ribera (First Futurist)
    I never heard of him before so just when was this suppose to have happened?
    The reason I ask is that there is a document that has been dated to around 300 AD that speaks directly of the pretrib rapture not to mention scripture it self. Would you like a copy of it?

    Good post Jerome, when I looked at Beth's post I thought she was saying 'Historic'.

    I would like to make it clear though for others that there is a difference between the terms "Historic" and "Historicist", and Jerome placed a good and concise definition with regard to Eschatological views. The 'historic' term has been stated by me, D.A.S, and Pastor Larry as the views place historically as a predominantly held in the Church.

    Many amillennialists, including me, hold the idealist view of the Book of Revelation; that is, they generally regard the book as setting forth eternal truths concerning the conflict between good and evil and that the imagery of the book has no particular relation to any historical events.

    FTR, I'm pretty sure I recall some threads mentioning this, in my three years on the BB.

    BTW, welcome to the Baptist Board. :wavey:

    And incidentally, I don't normally vote in the polls, and will not do so here, either.

    But I will offer one bit of 'friendly advice' in your approach.

    Namely, that you might wanna' park the "chip" elsewhere, rather than your shoulder.
