Well I went and bought an ESV after having checked it out, read many parts of it,and checked it's references.
Now I would like to know if anybody has any CONCRETE evidence that the ESV is not the Word of God.

I think it's YOUR place to prove that it is.

The ESV is the word of God because God promised to preserve his word. The KJV was part of the seven-fold purification process. We know that God didn't use popish, baptist persecuting catholics, errrrrrgggggg, anglicans to preserve his word. In a way, they just got the ball rolling.

Then why did the esv translators opt for North African Jesuit mss. of the dark-ages??? The very ones used by the RCC

The ESV is one of my favorite translations. It is not exactly the easiest to read, but it is definitely not "dumbed down" as some of the KJVo clan like to say.

In fact, I questioned many verses until I checked with a Greek scholar to confirm the translation was right.

It contains a lot of verses from the RSV, but a lot of corrections and improvements have been made. Personally, I think it is one of the more "literal" translations, while still maintaining its readability.

Well simply put nobody has ever PROVEN the KJV is God's only Word, which I am not claiming for the ESV. I am just saying it is on an equal footing with the KJV.Now if you think it's not and can prove it then fine.

Using the tried-and-true hermeneutic used by our "only" brethren (and cistern), I can prove the ESV is the Word of God.

"The ESV is the Word of God."

There, that was easy enough. I said it. YOU must believe it or I will condemn you with all sorts of evil epithets. And call David Cloud to write ungodly tripe against you.

Quick Dr. Bob, what am I describing if I have to spend eternity reading David Cloud material?

(Just joking) you don't have to answer that one. :D

Yes, you can give me all three of my final warnings at once. Its been a LONG week.

Careful my children. Think not that God has failed to preserve his Word perfectly. Reach for the ESV thinline. Stay away from the Satanic Romish Athiest Wiccan God hating ESV Pew Bible!

I haven't had the chance to land an ESV yet. But, judging from the reports of those that I respect (read as however ya'll see fit), I think that I would like it.

    Phillip,

    E-sword

I never even thougth about E-sword. I was just there the other day to download the Vulgate for my daughter (she's taking Latin, and thought printing some of it out for translation would be worth some extra credit). I'll check it out.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

Anyone know the cheapest edition of the ESV (on real paper - I'm not big into cybervision). Paperback? Mass pulp production? Hardback?

    Tanks.

(p.s. - Philip asked: "Quick Dr. Bob, what am I describing if I have to spend eternity reading David Cloud material?"

And answer is "Purgatory". It's right there in the AV1611!)

$11.19 for the pew Bible at Amazon.com.

    A paperback NT is $3.99.

Yes, if you just want to check it out, I suggest the NT. It is practically a giveaway.

The ESV is becoming my main "carry to church" Bible. I have a cheap Holman NT, too, but I think I like the ESV better for detailed study.

I have not had the privilege of reading the OT in the Holman.

I think the ESV's biggest problem is lack of good marketing.

I have been reading the ONE YEAR BIBLE in the ESV since last June and really enjoy it!. I sense a greater accuracy combined with a readability factor that is quite refreshing. I am thankful for my Pastor's referral to this version.

IMHO this is the same conclusion I have come to. It is sad that the ESV has been shadowed by other translations that came out about the same time. I think people who really want to do study of the Bible can do much worse.

I'm reading through the Bible this year using the ESV and have really enjoyed it. I confess that there are places where the rendering is so literal that it obscures the meaning rather than clarifies it (usually where an idiom is involved), but those places are fairly rare. I don't restrict myself to using only one version, since no translation is perfect. The ESV is on the list of the ones I read regularly.

I got the hardcover a while ago. I read the entire NT and now I'm rereading the gospels and starting the psalms. Next, I plan to read the entire OT. I really like it so far. It is the Word of God and it is in English - hence, it's the Word of God in English.
