Why should every Christian sign it?

What if I'm a Christian who doesn't want to sign it?

I am a Christian and I will not sign such a petition unless two requirements are met:

    1) Proof that Iran is trying to build a nuclear weapon.

    2) Proof that Iran intends to use a nuclear weapon in a first strike.

As long as Iran remains within the strictures of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty it has the right to carry on with its research.

"Iran's nuclear program began in the Shah's era, including a plan to build 20 nuclear power reactors. Two power reactors in Bushehr, on the coast of the Persian Gulf, were started but remained unfinished when they were bombed and damaged by the Iraqis during the Iran-Iraq war. Following the revolution in 1979, all nuclear activity was suspended, though subsequently work was resumed on a somewhat more modest scale. Current plans extend to the construction of 15 power reactors and two research reactors. Research and development efforts also were conducted by the Shah's regime on fissile material production, although these efforts were halted during the Iranian revolution and the Iran-Iraq war.

Iran ratified the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty in 1970, and since February 1992 has allowed the IAEA to inspect its nuclear facilities."

So do you want to attack Israel, Great Britain, France, Russia, Pakistan, China, and India right now as well, Joseph? They actually have nuclear weapons and we could be just one change in leadership away in any of those countries and they might be interested in the nuking the United States.

Perpetual war for perpetual peace doesn't work, Joseph. Fortunately, the vast, vast majority of we Americans reject such nonsense.

None of those countries are a threat to the United States. Iran is. If you want to continue actinng like an ostrich, that is your business.

So do I. Nobody I know supports perpetual war without an end just for the sake of having a war.

They are threatening to annihilate a democratic ally of ours for starters...

ok, now Ken, insert non-interventionist, realist, isolationist response here and then claim it is no such thing.

I don't agree with using the remarks of one Iranian leader to attack a sovereign nation.

Using your logic Venezuela could attack Christians in the U.S. because of Pat Robertson's remarks toward Chavez.

That would be wrong because Robertson does not represent most Christians and certainly not most Americans. Neither do Ahamadinejad's outrageous statements represent most Iranians.

</font>[/QUOTE]That is some twisted logic. In case you were ignorant of the facts, let me fill you in:

Ahmadenijad is the president of Iran.

Robertson is an irellevant idiot who was rebuked by the president of the United States for his comments.

    Do you see the difference?

And you should be aware that the Iranian election for president wasn't exactly free and fair:

So, Joseph, you should understand that the Iranian president does not legitimately speak for most Iranians.

I never said he did. But, since he is the leader of the nation, he has the power to make good on his threats. Surely, you understand this.

Do you really want to attack every nation that has a leader that says outrageous things? If you do, then we are going to need a military at least twenty times its present size.
