In recent postings—giving/tithing and praying for the sick, for 2 examples—someone posts some facsimile of “just trust God….” If managing our lives were that simple, what things would we do?

This reminds me of a joke. (My house flooded 3 times, so story hits a little close to home.)

A very religious old man awoke one morning to find that his street was flooding from torrential rains. A group of neighbors came by in a pickup truck and offered to take him out of his flooding neighborhood.

He said, "No thank you. The Lord will provide!"

A few hours laterthe rains were still pounding and the flood waters were now creeping up his front steps. A boat came by with firemen and they offered to take him away from the flooding.

He said, "No thank you. The Lord will provide!"

Yet a few more hours passed and the downpour had not ceased. The flood waters were 6 feet inside the old man's house and he was now on his roof. A rescue helicopter came by and offered to airlift him away from the disaster area.

He said, "No thank you. The Lord will provide!"

    The man died.

Once in heaven he spoke to God saying, "I have been a very faithful man all of my life, Lord. Yet, when I was depending on you to provide for my life, you failed me. Why did you not provide?"

God said, "I sent you a truck, a boat, and a helicopter to take you to safety. What more did you want?"

We are all, hopefully, depending on God for all of our needs, but He gave us brains to invent things that would aid us in or lives. If we refuse to use those things which He has provided for us; medicine, love, food, shelter, clothing; we have no one to blame but our stubborn selves.

I hope I am not the old man who only trusts that God is in the matter if it is a physically supernatural occurance taking place before my eyes.

All the comforts and aids that we have are miracles given to us by God through these large masses of tissue that He put inside our heads.

Whats the point of this poll? God gives us intellegence to make most of the decisions you listed. When we trust God we are trusting Him to do as He promises. Not take our every step. He only guides our steps and is a light unto our path.
