Excuses wearing thin for Obama, media pals

    October 20, 2009
    BY STEVE HUNTLEY

Have you heard the news? President Obama inherited an economic mess from the Bush administration.

You say that's hardly news? But it's been the message sounded over and over by the White House. Top Obama adviser David Axelrod said on one of the Sunday news shows, "He walked in the door, we had the worst economy since the Great Depression." In San Francisco, Obama talked of being "busy with our mop." White House heavy hitter Rahm Emanuel used the worst-economy-since-the-Depression line on a public TV news show.

You'd think it's October 2008, the final month in the Obama presidential candidacy, rather than October 2009, nine months into the Obama presidency. Yet the Obama White House is in full campaign mode -- maybe because it needs to mask the shortcomings of the Obama presidency.

They seem to be flailing, and the Bush-Dunnit hammer is just too good to turn loose of.

How long did Roosevelt have to deal with the problems Hoover presented him with?

Obama intends to follow the path of FDR, tax and spend to extend the recession/depression for an additional 10 years or so. Somewhere along that path we will become a banana republic.

Did we become a banana republic under Roosevelt? I don't think so.

If not for WWII where would we have been? Tidy you seem to forget that's what brought us out of the depression and not FDR's policies.

As long as there are people like the multitude in Seattle who think Obama will hand out thousands he will probably be able to muddle along. Apparently they think Obama can perform a miracle similar to the loaves and fishes.

    Not long at all.

FDR readily endorsed Hoover's increases in government spending, then expanded on them and drove the country deeper into an even longer depression.

Actually, Roosevelt was sworn in atr the absolute bottom of the depression as measured by the GDP. We had hard times after that in terms of unemployment and stock market downturns but in terms of the GDP it was all up after Roosevelt took office.

Obama's incessant whining is decidedly unpresidential and tiring.

    It's to be expected.

One of the most basic tenets of liberalism is to never take responsibility , only undeserved credit.

Don't mean to derail this thread but your post reminded me of an email I received, as follows:

If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn`t buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed...

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn`t eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy.
A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced for everyone.

If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A liberal will delete it because he or she is offended".

alatide...feel free at any point to start making sense. You don't have to ask for permission. Just be coherent. It'll be OK.
