Lutherans have generally not used 1 John 2:18-24 in reference to the Pope because it was thought that the passage referred to antichrists who arose during the apostolic age to deny the Holy Trinity. However, this assessment should be reconsidered in the light of recent statements by the Pope granting salvation to pagans.

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. 1 John 2:22, 23

    John Gilmore,

I hope we don't hear of new images going up in Roman Catholic Churches like Mohammed. One would hope that the powers that be, will keep the statues within the holy family and saints related to Christianity. This idolatry is about all some Protestants can bare seeing and hearing about.

    Ray,

When all else fails, make up horrid and baseless "future events" that have no bearing on the discussion or truth in general, because no tactic is too low when you just have to be right.

Well they took the image to Zeus and "baptized" it as the image to Peter so the pagans in Rome could continue reverencing their Zeus images in as RC-Christian a way as possible - but I don't know if they would go as far as making an image to Mohammed. Zeus maybe - but surely not Mohammed!! [IMG]

Ray - sometimes you just go too far. :D

    In Christ,

    Bob

Ray's comments: Just a bit of hyperbole . . . but then the Pope has been having talks with the Jewish faith. I agree that Islam would be a large step down from the Christian religion.

A passage that many times is lifted out of the Scripture is that of Isaiah 9:6-7. The son of Mary has long ago been born to us, and we are grateful to God and to the mother of our Lord. 'The government that shall {future tense} be on His shoulder' is the one spoken about by the Prophet Zechariah in his fourteenth chapter. What kind of government will it be? Will it be a democracy, a republic, or a dictatorship or what? Many of the writers of the New and Old Testaments suggest that it will be a Kingship, and theologians call it a theocracy. Will this God controlled government be only over Jerusalem or will it extend out to all of Israel or even further? The pivotal aspect of His government will be from Jerusalem [Zechariah 14:16] but will also reach to the distant isles of the seven seas. [Zechariah 14:9] 'And the Lord shall be King over all the earth; in that day shall there be one Lord, and His Name one.' Notice, this Kingship and Kingdom will be future to the time of Zechariah's prophecy and ministry on behalf of Israel.

We know of Jesus birth and Mary who wrapped the baby in swaddling clothing and placed Him in the manger. While Jesus was here on earth He did not establish an earthly government, because He clearly said 'My Kingdom is not of this world.' His minister may have taken in less than seventy-five square miles so He could not have been King over the entire earth. But, the prophet just before Malachi declared that His government would extend around the globe. [Zechariah 14:9 & 16 and in the latter verse, Jesus demands that all people come and worship Him in the holy city, Jerusalem. They will come as far away as Egypt we are told, and apparently even further away than that.

As much as some students of the Word defraud His word and instruction to us, we are told that the Messiah/Jesus will restore the 'Feast of the Tabernacles,' as well as the animal 'sacrifices.' These will be a memoral as to His dealing with the Israelites in days of old, just as we remember/memorialize His death for us, when we partake of the Holy Communion. The animal sacrifice will have no saving benefit for anyone in the Millennium just as it did not effectually take away human sins under the O.T. system. Their obedience in bringing the lamb or dove produced favor with the Lord in that God then could look through Jesus atonement and did cover their sins.

The word, 'seethe' in the Hebrew means: 'a primary root word meaning to boil up; as in cooking. It could mean to bake, boil, roast, or to make moist through adding water. Once the priests during the Millennium are done with the ceremonial sacrifice of the lamb, it will be used for eating lest there be wasted food. Thus, we read in the New Century Version:

'Every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the Lord, All-Poweful, and everyone who offers sacrifices will be able to take food from them and cook in them. At that time there will not be any buyers or sellers in the Temple {the Millennial Temple} of the Lord All-Powerful.'

A little different rendering of these verses are offered from the New International Version.

'Every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the Lord Almighty, and all who come to sacrifice will take some of the pots and cook in them. And on that day there will no longer be a Canaanite in the House of the Lord {Millennial Temple} Almighty.'

Obviously, since Jerusalem will be the spiritual mecca, if you will, where Jesus is King, people will need food as they will come there by the multiple thousands of human beings. This will be an annual event for all those nations who fought against God's city, Jerusalem as documented in Zechariah 14:16 as they will be required to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

Then shall be brought to pass the prophecy that Jesus will then be sitting ' . . . the throne of {King} David,' [Isaiah 9:7] in the same city that David sat when he was the second king of Israel, 1,000 years before the birth of our Lord Jesus.
