Before the word "thereof" was used in English "his" was employed. Evenso, the KJV used the word "his" which was archaic in 1611. For instance, see Ecc. 3:11 where the KJV has :"He hath made everything beautiful in his time...". And God is not being referenced with the word his. Yet according to Merriam-Webster the word "its" was coined as early as 1507. I'll have to dig around some to find evidence that "its" was used in writings around the late 16th and early 17th centuries. But I suspect that the KJV revisers just wanted to be on the conservative side. They didn't want to have to deal with modern language innovations. And I guess they were't sure it would stick.

    Ezra

Most modern English versions use some form of the word diligence in this passage.
NET Bible : We are left as a remnant today.
HCSB : We are left as a remnant this day.

Ever held a manual labor job? Diligence requires speed sometimes.

I don't see any difference in this portion.

In Ezra 6, the context is "searcing the written record" in a "house of rolls".
So a threat, by the Ruler of the known World, to utterly destroy the memory of anyone altering that discovered written record, fits.

    Eza 6:11
11 Also I have given order that whosoever shall alter this rescript, let timber be pulled down from his house, and being set up, let him be hanged thereon, and let his house be made a dunghill for this.
    (Darby)

    Eza 6:11
11 Therfor the sentence is set of me, that if ony man chaungith this comaundement, a tre be takun of his hows, and be reisid, and be he hangid therynne; sotheli his hows be forfetid.
    (WYC)

    Eza 6:11
11 También es dado por mí mandamiento, que cualquiera que mudare este decreto, sea derribado un madero de su casa, y enhiesto, sea colgado en él:y su casa sea hecha muladar por esto.
    (RV09)

    Eza 6:11
11 Also I make a decree that if anyone alters this edict, a beam shall be pulled out of his house, and he shall be impaled on it, and his house shall be made a dunghill.
    (ESV)

Seems the "problem" isnt in the KJV after all.

Ever heard of hate makes waste. Speed does not = diligence.

    "Sometimes" has a definition.

I have worked construction, mostly in ministry setting, for over 20 years.
I have taught people for years this method:
    Learn the steps in order.
Repeat the order, until you are comfortable.
Once you are sure, speed up the process regularly, until you reach the greatest speed within your ability to produce excellence.

So this is why I asked if you've ever worked...

    Judg 9:48
48 And Abimelech gat him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.

    Diligence in manual labor.

    1Sa 20:38
38 And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.

Oops, I guess all these people were very wasteful?

    2Ch 35:21
21 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war:for God commanded me to make haste:forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.

    Now you've attacked God.

Not exactly a complicated and time-consuming chore there.

You quote a verse and then declare that I've attacked God! Grow up.

My original point was that "SOMETIMES" diligence requires haste, and so that "disparity" is a non-issue.

I believe I showed that, effectively.

You did show it effectively. Do not allow yourself to be baited into an angry response that results in an infraction. You are not going to win against poster.
