Fallen man, in himself, is as helpless as was the fallen earth. The sinner can no more regenerate himself than could the ruined earth lift itself out of the deep which rested upon it. The new creation, like the restoration of the material creation, must be accomplished by God Himself.

This quote was from A.W. Pink in his gleanings in Genesis... Pink comparing Fallen Man to ruined earth showing that the unregenerate sinner has no part in his Spiritual creation this must be a accomplished by God alone... Comments!... Brother Glen

It takes the supernatural work of God to quicken a dead sinner to life as it did in the first creation.
6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

If someone never truly grasps the ruin the unregenerate man is in, his whole theology is off. The unregenerate are a fallen creation that fell in Adam, and has no ability to come to God of his own accord. That is why it is imperative to understand that the dead spiritually are unable to respond to the gospel. It takes a quickening of the Spirit of God that gives a new heart, eyes and ears to fully love, see and hear.
