For a good start get Jim Packer's : " The Sovereignty of God And Evangelism " . It's packed ( pun intended ) full of biblically applied helpful material .

I may have to check them out.

I am trying to decide which of Rainer's books to read first. Any hints?

Alas, I don't have any of Rainer's books. Though I feel I have a good library on evangelism, I haven't bought any new books on the subject for about ten years. I guess I'm "old school."

Other "old school" books I recommend are: The Wondrous Joy of Soul Winning by R. A. Torrey (REALLY old school), How to Have a Soul Winning Church by Gene Edwards (SBC I believe), Biblical Evangelism in Action by Robert L. "Bob" Sumner (IFB) and Evangelism Explosian by D. James Kennedy (Presbyterian).

EE is great, but there has been a 'backlash' against it in the SBC because he is reformed . . . go figure. When a reformed believer gets something right, we wanna throw the baby out with the bath water, but keep the ones that don't get it right.

    IMHO.

I really liked Master Plan of Evangelism by Robert Coleman. I know it's an older book, but I just picked it up and found it to be a great resource.

It is good, more of an view of the concept of evangelism, which enables you to adapt instead of adhering to a rigid system. It's good.

I also like Share Jesus without Fear.

That's a good book, but aren't you too young to be old school? ;)

    John of Japan,
I took you up on your recommendation. Bought both via Amazon and just finished them today. Awesome books!

Another excellent book on the basics and fundamentals of evangelism is Personal Evangelism by J.C. Maccaulay and Robert H. Belton. They were both instructors in evangelism at Moody Bible Institute back in the 50's.

I still refer to this book to-day.

The best follow-up book is The Fight, By Dr. White, InterVarsity Press. The late Dr. White was a professor and psychiatrist in Canada. I used to give this book to every convert under my ministry and follow up as a class leading to baptism.

    Cheers,

    Jim
