    Re: A Christmas Story

Dad's language isn't filthy. McGavin was wonderfully creative in stringing together nonsense words that sounded like cursing but contained no bad language.

(Ralphie, in fact, utters the only phrase that can be clearly identified as cursing.)

Actually, if you watch it on DVD, there IS what I consider to be language in the movie that I wish wasn't there. So much so that I haven't let my kids watch yet. Fortunately, the TV version is alerted somewhat to leave out some of the language.

My favorite scene in A Christmas Story

(after mom "accidentally" knocks over The Old Man's lamp)

Old Man: (scowling) Get the glue...

    Mom: (scowling back) We're out.

Old Man: You used up all the glue on purpose!

The 1984 version of "A Christmas Carol." For comic relief, "Home Alone 2" with the best villian in the movies, Tim Curry. :D

The Homecoming. It was what kicked off the Waltons series. I saw this weekend on DVD. It was made in 1971. It was rated PG b/c language.

In one scene Mary Ellen calls all her siblings p_ss ants. That was the extent of the bad language. Oh, if only movies had that kind of "bad language."

Oh yes, Miracle on 34th Street, that's a good one too.

DH loves Home Alone I & II. He thinks that is the funniest thing to see that guy scream like a girl. He cracks up laughing! [IMG]

Tim Curry wasn't in either Home Alone movie. You may be thinking of Daniel Stern, who played Marv in both movies.

If I'm not mistaken, it's been a while since I've seen it, Tim Curry was the concierge in the hotel in HA2.

My wife and I love and collect various versions of "A Christmas Carol." We currently own about 12-15 different versions - live, animated, spoofs, etc.

OUr favorites are theTNT version of A CHristmas Carol with Patrick Stewrt as Scrooge, Mr. Magoo's Chrsitmas Carol, and A Muppet Christmas Carol.

By far, our favorite "straight" version is the one with Patrick Stewrt.

Tim Curry was definitely in Home Alone 2. He played Mr. Hector the hotel concierge.

Yes, "A Christmas Carol" is another favorite. But ours is the one with George C. Scott. We have it taped off of TV from ten - fifteen years ago. There's an old IBM commercial on there I love with IBM users around the world saying "Merry Christmas" in different languages with famous landmarks behind them. So I can never get rid of that tape!!!! [IMG]

It's a Wonderful Life. No contest.

Elf and the Santa Clause are also favorites of mine.

These days I am pretty anti-Hollywood because they are so anti-god and wicked. However, there are some movies that are funny and that I like. Most of the time the cussing is added for no reason and adds nothing to the movie at all. Luckily, there are now companies that clean up or edit the movies and take out all of the cussing and sexual themes and some of the violence. I have purchased several films from here and now a R rated movie I liked such as the original Vacation movie with Chevy Chase is more like a mild PG film. Here is the site of one such company below: God Bless.

"Pissant" (one word) is simply an obsolete word for an ant and it simply means "an insignificant one". There's nothing dirty, or even off color about it.

But, I like cheese. So, "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" is one of my favorites, as well as "Santa Claus" (1958). (If you've seen it, you will know it; if not, ask me and I'll tell you; but, it's not your typical movie at all.)

I just received The Waterboy via the clean movie company that I linked earlier. It is amazing that just by eliminating 5 minutes of nonsense that the movie could eb enjoyed by the whole family. I think they just add cussing and sexual innuendos for the sake of it.
