Hey, are these not the 13 missing commandments?

Does the Bible say anything about wigs, toupees or extensions?

Is there a Christian hair mold for men that we can take to our barber, that he can cut around, so we can have the proper hair style and length? [IMG]

AMEN PIONEER! Finally some Christian with some backbone. I don't care what the old "theologian" says is sin and not but yes smoking (despite what most of you seem to be defending is sin... IT'S WICKED AND GOD HATES IT. It's not YOUR body...it's God's body and what's the matter with you by polluting it with tobacco and poisoning it with liquor and marking it with tattoos and all that. Let the soft, week-kneed liberal christians call it legalism....it's about time people OBEY God' Word and his Standards

How long will it be before people realize that the longer the list, the more immature in faith and unskilled in the word a person is? Do you not know that one of the blessings of the New Covenant (of which we share in) is that God's law is written on the heart?

Tell me, do you pollute your body with soda, coffee, chocolate, ice cream, etc.?

It is time to man up to truth and put this foolishness behind you. There is no excuse for you to handle God's word in such a sloppy manner.

Really, that is interesting. The Bible I read taught me that one is immature when they CANNOT distinguish between good and evil.

The mature is one who can. Hebrews 5;13-14, "For everyone who partakes of the milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, Who because of practice have their senses trained to DISCERN GOOD AND EVIL."

I have not seen the verse that says what you are implying.

    1. What did I say that disagreed with this?

    2. What did I say that disagreed with this?

    3. You mean other than the passages on the New Covenant? Consider 2 Cor. 3. If the ministry of Moses was glorious (which had the law written on tablets of stone), HOW MUCH MORE THE MINISTRY OF THE SPIRIT (who has written upon the hearts of believers)?

Btw, I fully agree that the mature discern between good and evil. Why do you think a person must have a long list to be mature. Where is the Scripture that even remotely implies that?

Finally, what do you mean "the Bible I read"? Do you suppose I have a Reader's Digest?

So, you are saying that the Law in our hearts supersedes the written one?

That is not at all what I said.

Look, this person types a bunch of commands that are very important to him. Some of them were correct according to Scripture. Some were leaps of faith and masterful gymnastics around Scripture.

To constantly need to be reminded of basic, elementary teachings and principles is immature. You gave Hebrews 5 as the proof. Those who are more mature and skilled can move on. They are not constantly tripping over the basics.

The Spirit never contradicts God's written revelation. I hope I won't have to state this as my position again. All who know me, know me to be a staunch inerrantist and one who believes the preaching and teaching of the word to be the primary method of communicating truth.

Listen, I am not the one who is ignoring 2 Cor. 3.

The headcovered woman thread has migrated to:
    http://www.baptistboard.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=48;t=000339

Pioneer: "It is rebellion against God: ... "

Brother Pioneer then lists 13 items. Some agreed
with most items and some agreed with all items.
Actually, though the items may be worthy of avoiding,
they do NOT constitute rebellion against God.

I need to go to work, I'll be back.
We need to discuss what rebellion against God might be. [IMG]

    Good idea, Edifier.

As I understand it, rebellion against our God is
refusing to do what He says, refusing to take
advantage of His gifts, complaining against Him,
maniulation or attempts to manipulate, persisting
    in known sin, and stubbornness.

    If it is in the Bible, we must believe what it says;
if it is added to the Bible, it can very well be
    ignored.

    Daniel,
Thanks for the discussion. I read over 2 Corinthians 3 and I believe it to be entirely truthful that the Law shows us we are inadequate.
However, the use of the headship veiling for females was not given in the Mosaic Law, so your point is at best moot.

This thread has nothing to do with head coverings. It has to do with what is rebellion. I introduced the idea that the weak need all the rules in front of them and constantly preached to them. My mention of 2 Cor. 3 had to do with the New Covenant's glory versus the Old Covenant's glory. That is all.

Sorry for the first post. Still understanding the way the BB works. Guess I'll make sure to preview my posts now..........

Just wanted to thank you all for this thread. This has become a hot issue in our church and this thread has given me a little perspective.

Amen, Sister Abiyah -- Preach it [IMG]

Good definition of rebellion against God.
Now I don't need to define it, Sister Abiyah
    already did.

    Andy,
Are you referring to the headcovering being a hot issue in your church? I am interested to hear more about that.

There were many different kinds of idol worshipping going on in that time. (And I read somewhere, I have been searching for it again, but have not found it yet, when I do I will post it...) That many things were done to the body of women to present themselves to idols.

Some Were shaved and presented as sacrifice to walk into fire ovens along with children. Also to be sacrificed by slaying them on an alter.

    Slavery was another example.

Women having homosexuality relations for the gods was another.

    Sherrie

I have found this, and thought to share it:

At certain religious events women also shaved their heads, and men assumed veils or long, flowing hair and golden hairnets. Though the earlier Greeks engaged in the Trojan War are described as 'long-haired Achaeans,' by the first century of our era a shaven head on a woman and long tresses on a man were viewed as sexual inversions. Hebrew heroes, such as Samson, Absalom, and the Nazirites, had also maintained long hair with no suspicion of effeminacy, but this was no longer true in the New Testament period. For example, artistic representations of Dionysus became less masculine and developed softened features and lengthened hair 'that renders it difficult at times to distinguish a head of Dionysus from one of Ariadne' (Farnell, Cults of the Greek City States, V, p. 278) The god himself was becoming sexually ambivalent and was called 'sham man,' 'in feminine form,' 'male-female,' and 'double-natured.' 'And if the faithful who took part in the Bacchic train wore the krokotos, the saffron-colored feminine veil, it was to imitate the god himself, who was in this late era often interpreted as a sign of softness and debauchery' (Delacourt, Hermaphrodite, p. 39)
