I agree that it is so important to pass on what we know! We are not to be receptacles but are to be conduits! God's love, His word, and ministering to others is done through us.

I do again commend my church. Someone stated today that they'd never in their life been in a church where so much was expected from the members but that they loved it! It is a blessing to observe such mutual help, love and sharing within the body of Christ and to know we are in fact ministering to Him!

Yes, that was definitely unbelievable! What heresy and leading of lambs to slaughter! There is accountability however! All are responsible for their behavior, words and influence on others!

quote=2BHizown]Thanks for your posts. They have been quite revealing. In my OP I clearly stated I had not read the book. I had read reviews of the book. I wanted to see if anyone here had read it and what their thoughts on it were. Simple request?[/quote]By titling your post "Finally, a lucid response" and then stating that you haven't even read the book you sort of opened yourself up for ridicule. If someone else claimed it was a lucid response and you were just quoting them then maybe you could have made that clearer. It looked to me like your claim even though you hadn't read the book. Some anti-Warrenists would do that kind of thing, you know. :)

Even if I erred in wording it so, does that make it acceptable for our christian family to do so and more to a fellow believer? No, that is unacceptable and I object and while I expect such treatment from the world I expect to be treated with both kindness and respect from fellow christians! If that is not your modus operandi then I suggest you discuss such with our Lord and request a new vision of His holiness and love for other believers! I have viewed posts on this forum that are truly unacceptable for a believer to have written, total absence of caring, trust, love and respect! This needs to change if the name 'BaptistBoard' is to have any significance at all! Some view these posts who as yet do not know our Lord and will see here no difference in this and the worlds way of exchange!

What is the purpose driven fallacy? Do you not believe that the purposes of a church are worship, discipleship, fellowship, evangelism, and missions?

Honestly, if you've been around here very long you ought to know what is going to happen any time you start a topic that mentions Rick Warren. If you haven't been around here very long, well, now you know. As unfortunate as it is, it is the way it is.

So, my answer to the OP is that I've not read the book, and I have no major problems with Rick Warren (and I may be the only Calvinist who has ever said that), and I have no idea whether that response is lucid or not.

It indeed is unfortunate. I hope we can start acting more Christ like in our actions.

Did someone bring this up or did you intentionally go off topic by raising a straw man?

    It was in response to:
    Adding my own two cents.

Many have attacked Warren due to these very things, yet there is no biblical basis for the attacks.

These are my sentiments also... If these 5 things are not the purpose of the church, what things are?

I have been through the 40 days of purpose, I saw God use the PDL to strengthen a church... Many ministries start, people won to God.

Most people that trash Warren and PDL have no experience at all with the program, they are just parroting what other authors and jealous preachers are saying.

Sure, I disagreed with a few things in the program, but no one is going to agree 100% of the time. Just look at all the fine folk here on BB. I'm sure we all love the Lord and serve him in the way He has purposed, but we still get into heated discussions.

    Paul and Barnabas did
    Paul and Peter did
The Apostles argued over who was going to be first.

Does that mean we are horrible people....no, it just means we are people with passion. There are a few things I am very passionate about. God wired me that way.. when those passions seem to come up against other's passions friction arises...

God has a purpose for every person.
God has a purpose for every church.

And if it is not Worship, Fellowship, Evangelism, Ministry, and Discipleship, what is the purpose of serving God?

    You're welcome.

    Yes, it is.

I know, I know, I struggle with this, and freely admit it. However, I don't believe I was overly sarcastic or rude. I merely pointed out "My thoughts are that you should read the book before claiming it to be a "lucid response. My opinion doesn't matter." Both of these are true statements, at least in my opinion (that doesn't matter).

Sorry about that. No, I haven't read it.

I've seen no lashing, at least in comparison to other RW threads or controversial issues. When put beside others on this board who have been severely lacerated verbally occasionally, you have had to endure very little, in my opinion (that doesn't matter). I wouldn't lash out at you. Given the anonymity of this message board and the fact that you say you're from Texas, you could be a member of one of my former churches for all I know. I wouldn't intentionally try to offend you. And I don't see that here... maybe some mild joking and poking fun at your expense... but you open yourself to that with your original post.

I thought you might before the thread closed.

So "they" called it a "purpose-driven fallacy," a "David vs. Goliath" book, and a "lucid respose?" As I was reminded here at the BB a couple of years ago, ONE who quotes TWO without telling that TWO said what ONE is quoting, is in danger of claiming TWO's quotes and opinions as ONE's own. Simple Anti-Plagerism 101. I did it by mistake, got called on it, and had to explain that the opinions weren't mine. Don't fall in that trap.

    Yes, Worship and Youth Pastor.
    Yes, occasionally.
Yes, great prayer and sentiment. I agree!

There was no plagarism present as I most clearly gave the site for which I took the comments. I clearly quoted from the reviews on the site if anyone had gone to the site referred to!
Yes, I do know I got off 'light' as you say as I have witnessed some being villified here which is a shameful witness! All in fun? My request was for those who may have read the book and had opinions from such reading. Yes, the book itself was written clearly to repudiate the opposing opinions. If the author clearly referenced and documented such then why on earth is there such hostility expressed. I was information gathering from BB. Why did others who had not respond to declare their opinion which was not solicited at all, other than a 'no', I've not read the book!
All posts have been taken to heart. Obviously I did err in my 'attention grabbing subject title'! Please forgive that error!
I hold no ill will but I definitely do think posters should edit their own post for 'God honoring', friendliness, and good will prior to submitting! I definitely intend to be quite careful and selective before offering an opposing opinion again!
    Soli deo gloria!

    You want mercy . . .

When you have read the book - tell me how it ends. I do not have time to do reviews for you!

    I am counseling others . . . and pastoring . . . ;) And wasting what little time I have on the BB . . .

    ;)

OK, my bad. I didn't read through ALL the reviews, just the ones toward the top.

Sorry if I offended you. That was not my intent. But being the volatile subject that it is for some (not me) I thought maybe you expected a volatile response from some. Since I don't have an opinion either way about PDL, RW or any other acronymns I can think associated with Saddleback, I'll bow out now. 2B, I apologize for disrupting your peaceful BB existance. BTW, let us know if you do read the book what you think about it.

Actually that request for mercy was for you and others of like mind.
I experience His mercy and grace daily, but to think of those with such hostile feelings counseling others in need is rather sad. Doesnt appear Christlike to say the least!

Brother, I apologize . . . I did not intend to communicate hostility - the only way I communicate hostility is to protect this body or others from you or an evil person harming them.

I was not aware that you intended to commit harm, so I did not intend to communicate hostility . . .

Maybe you could read the book and tell about it . . .
