I live in the San Mateo county area of California. Does anyone else? I am attending Calvary Chapel because they are the most healthy church within a hour drive of me, and one of the only churches of the many I have visited here growing up that teaches the bible.

When I was living in Shasta County finding jobs was very difficult, however the church environment was much healthier. I attended at least 4 fundamentalist churches that were not KJVO. There were many others in that area.

However if my family were in Shasta County I would not join them in attending Calvary Chapel.

    Some Suggestions

Depending on your tastes, there is Hamilton Square Baptist in downtown San Francisco, Calvary Baptist, San Francisco on the Daly City line and a church in Redwood City. I'll have to look the last one up in the NorCal FBF directory.

Thanks for that. I just tried and could not find a church with a hour from me. The closest is Concord and that is about 2 hours away.

Redwood Baptist of Redwood City is a KJVO church. But I do thank you for the tips. SF is too far of a drive.

I guess Calvary Chapel is where God wants me for know.

Also I have heard from former attendees some things about the racism of one of these churches that you mentioned that I'd rather not repeat publicly.

I do not want to attend a racist fundmaentalist church.

There's also Calvary Baptist in Fairfield. Im not sure how far away you are from Fairfield, but its a good church. They only use the KJV, but they don't tend to make an issue of it, and they are not obnoxious. My husband grew up in that church, although under a different pastor.

Yes it is. My husband grew up there, and I also lived in CA all of my life until we moved here to WI. There are several good churches up in Northern CA. And actually its a bit hard to take when you keep referring to "no healthy churches there." There are healthy churches in Northern CA......but so far you aren't willing to accept them as such. Thats ok.

But if you are going to keep going to Calvary Chapel, then accept it. Be happy where you are if you are unwilling to change.

As a member of HSBC for over twenty years, I would appreciate your answering the PM I sent you this morning. I cannot let the innuendo that my home church has the least whiff of racism about it go unchallenged. I will not rise to the defense of Calvary Baptist, SF until I receive the particulars from you in your reply. Though, off the top of my head, I view such an accusation as groundless. Groundless to the point that without further information, I must consider the charge as slanderous.

HSBC alone has ~twenty languages represented in its membership. Its demographics reflect the City's ethnic makeup save we do not have a large African-American component. However, HSBC is located on the eastern edge of the Western Addition, a historic Afro-American sectrion of SF. Many Black churchs are located in the Western Addition. HSBC's location makes it an "inner city", not a suburban, church.

Or perhaps if you are willing to change the area.

You do not live here. But thanks for the effort.

I did not go and do not know the details. However a family I have known all my life said that the pastor did some racist things that did nothing but drive the mexians out of the church.

I have no details, but I trust my source, and when I did visit I did not see many mexicans.

Doesn't come across that way to me.

Sounds like someone he trusts has steered him away from that church and he is simply recounting that fact. I didn't see where he said definitively that they were racist.
