I believe God is in the business of handing out souls, not man. Not even a man and wife having a baby the normal way has the power to plant a soul in the cells the two have just connected. That, only God can do, and common sense says God would equally plant a soul in a cloned baby.

The act of conceiving offspring can't be connected to the creation of souls in an independent completion of the act itself, otherwise all animals and maybe even plant life would be creating souls through fertilization or at least could be. And that would mandate we start assuming that souls exist in all life forms. Even Gen. could be interpreted to support that animals have souls.

However, the real issue here is the death and aberrations of fetus and babies that will take place before the system for cloning is perfected, if ever.

It's important to understand that these people did not create anything. They took the genetic program (DNA) that God created, combined it with another creation of God (an egg) and stimulated it to begin growing.

If the clone is real and alive right now, it has a soul. I guess it will work the same way that identical twins do - they both get souls.

...unless one of them happens to be a borg from Star Trek. In that case, run for your lives!

    Revelation 16:3
And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

    Ecclesiastes 3:19
Man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless.

If true, the statement itself would also be included as meaningless, because it is meaningless, it means something. The statement contridicts itself and can't be true.

We can then deduct that at least some things have meaning. For some things to have meaning, they must have a purpose, for purpose to exit implies a creator of purpose. Since a Creator exist, then most likely all things have meaning. We just don't know what the meanings are since we are not the Creator.

wisdomseeker, no it has not been banned in America, acording to the news we have here, but there is speculation that George Bush will now put pressure on congress to do something about it.

I don't think its to be taken quite that literal. If you read the whole book, the author is on a quest to find purpose in life here on earth. He finds everything to be rather pointless and vain, so he concludes that the only thing left to do is take joy in the Lord and fill his time enjoying life and his work. When he says "everything is meaningless" I think he is recognizing how lowly he is compared to God and how little he understands the reality that God has established.
I think he's expanding on those rare moments people sometimes have when they question the meaning of thier existance and everything that goes on around them.

From what I have read, though there is no law in the United States outlawing cloning, the FDA has insisted that no experiments can go forward without its approval. And they are not giving approval. That seems to be the status until lawmakers actually pass something outlawing human cloning, which seems likely that the current Congress will do.

I am hearing third hand that a lawyer plans to attempt to make the cloned child a ward of court. The basis of his arguement is that the child is legally without a parent. There is no biological father and the woman carrying the child is technically being referred to as a "host" and not a biological mother. Anyone know any thing of this?

    yours, Jon.

Cloneaid has apparently backed out of allowing this unfortunate child (assuming there really is one) to be tested. Just over on the AOL news.
