I went to India in March. I didn't experience any rudeness going or coming.

I just got back from Boston. There was a woman in front of security, checking ID's, who was OBVIOUSLY waiting for someone to mess up so she could make an example of them.

I know it happens. I just hate to see a whole country dissed 'cuz of the actions of a few jerks.

Our Pastor's wife last yr came back from a short term missions trip to Cuba, and she was treated awful TO SAY THE LEAST!!!

But the visitors from other countries were invited right in....
While she was detained in order to answer stupid questions....

I guess the image we have now is: It is OK to come to America as long as you do it illegally!

The people in Scotland and Ireland were very nice. Greece was pleasant. Italy and France were another story.

That would be a tough way to get to Alabama :)

I know they are not all bad - had a lovely chap coming into Dulles last trip.

However the jerk woman at security in Pittsburgh on the way back made up for it :(

If you have ever spent just one day doing a job where you are required to get the general public to comply with rules or laws it will become very obvious in a short amount of time why a human being can become short on patience and kindness. The number of people who are found being rude in these positions are not a drop in the bucket to the amount of people who work hard not to comply with the necessary laws these people are trying to enforce. Many have a reason why they are special and should be given consideration different form everyone else.

Yep, that sounds like an American alright.... :D

Now I have that out of system (for now ;)) that border dude's attitude is sterotypical image the rest of the world gets of the U.S. Same image I had of Americans before visit there in 2000. I thought the American friends I was going to visit were the exception to the rule, but from what I saw in 17 days or so over there it seemed the good really did out-number the bad...Ahhhh rats! :(

Just don't tell anyone I said something nice about y'all, I gotta live on this planet ;)

LOL, Pete. When I was in Perth/Freemantle, my buddy and I rented a car, and went out of the cities, and met lots of folks. We had a great time, and the Aussies were fantastic.

Roger, add that with the stress of traveling, in the first place. The last thing you need after a trans-Atlantic flight is a hassle. But I found, at least in the big Amercan cities, that folks who have to deal with lots of people, every day, i.e. D.M.V. workers, cops, airline attendants, rental car receptionists, librarians, they all become very jaded. The smaller cities, folks are just more friendly.

I like traveling to Boston, where the attendants barely speak English, and the airport atmosphere is generally rude & hurried. You have to deal with that, just like those folks have to deal with me walking thru their airport in a big cowboy hat & loud boots. Kinda like a cultural "in-your-face!!!"

My wife and I didn't have to travel abroad. We simply went to Rochester, NY, and attended a singing convention of sorts. In a supposedly "Christian" environment, attended by "Christians" from all over New York. It was an all white church.

I sat in the tenor section, and my wife went to the alto section. When she sat down there were other women left and right of her, two songs later I look up from my songbook, and there was my wife sitting all alone in the middle of the row. Remember the wallflower in the dance ? That's how she looked like. The pretty white things upped and left her, nary a word of greeting, or a smile of "Christian" love, because I guess, like the black guy in New York who beat up a Filipina, "she looked too chinese".

I'm not talking just racism. I'm talking rudeness, impoliteness, discourtesy, unchristian, etc., etc.

We left at the first break in singing.

I've written my senator. No response as of yet. He's too busy raising money, I think.

I would never write a news network show. I could never leave the country. No sense in being permanently flagged or put on a "no-fly" list.

I've dealt with policemen, court officials, receptionists, mayors, councilmen....and not one has ever cussed me out.

Particularly when they know I am on a church trip, and we're in the presence of teenagers.

Absolutely no excuse, and they deserve no slack.

Should I love and pray for this fella? Absolutely. Should he lose his job? If it continually or repeatedly happens, absolutely.

Maybe it's time to just accept the fact that not everyone in the world thinks you're God's gift to humanity and move on.
