BTW: Though MEE and I are both Pentecostals...

We have had our words because there are areas we two disagree on...

Much the same way, I would suspect, that some versions of Baptist theology disagree...

I don't know what background MEE has but I know that I have had a rather broad range of religious experience...

From Armeniainism through Calvinism and back to a moderate form of Armenianism... (Read that as slightly more Armenian than Calvin.)

I tend to be a bit more ecelectic than the average Pentecostal...

In fact some of my posts may well prevent me from ever being licensed in my home denomination...

But, I gave *that* delusion of grandeur up years ago.

Sorry to jump in so late, but I just joined this board.
Lorelei states on August 30: The that which is perfect is the completed Word of God. The spiritual gifts were given to help the New Testament Church understand the New Covenant of grace. Once those who were gifted with this special knowledge and wisdom put that information into words, the gifts began to cease. Once the NT as we know it today was compiled, the purpose for the gifts ceased. We no longer need to be given a word of wisdom, all the wisdom that we need can be found in the Complete Word of God.

Nice ring to it, but not biblical exegesis. Does she REALLY believe that since the Bible was written we now "know as we are known" and no longer see through a glass darkly? Sounds like heaven to me, and believe me, if this is heaven, I REALLY have a problem with all the hurricanes running through the SW Florida portion of heaven.

And, if I know everything God knows now that the Bible is complete, why do I still have to "study to show myself approved" -- I already, according to Lorelei, Know as I am known? If I got it, I don't need to learn it!

The usual explanation goes like this: The Greek uses the neuter gender for "perfect", so it can't be the returning Christ. They ignore the fact that it is neuter because it has to agree in gender with the other words of the statement, you can't change gender in mid stream.

    Actually, it could be translated:
    "He which is perfect"
    "She which is perfect"
    "It which is perfect"
You can't create dogma from a preconceived notion (or, in this case, from a poor understanding of Greek).

And are the tongues real languages or noises that no one can understand? Because in the Acts, the tongues were interpretable languages.

And are the tongues real languages or noises that no one can understand? Because in the Acts, the tongues were interpretable languages. </font>[/QUOTE]are you talking about this passage?

    Acts2:4-6~
4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

~~If so it sounds like it to me. I understand it to say, that when they did speak in tounges it was "unknown tounge" to the disciples, but it just came out of their mouths to tell the others in thier different tounge. (After all during the tower of babble incident in the OT mens language was confounded by who?) ;)

    You're welcome... [IMG]

    'all'
I am amazed, sometimes, how Our Father puts up with so diverse, rambunctious and argumentative children at times.... :D

But, then I saw how well my two youngest siblings got along (NOT!) when we were younger and still living together...

I honestly didn't expect them to survive...

But, now they are quite close...

One day we 'all' will be close, too.

Afraid it will probably be in heaven, though... :D

    Read the thread.
    Read the article about Wiggleworth.
    Past Pentecostal tongue wagger.
    Been delivered from the nonsense.

Claim is made that 'wigglyworm' raised 23 folks from the dead!
This makes him greater than Paul, Elijah, Jesus, et.al.
    Imagine that!
    BALONEY!
In Greek that is; mule muffins! ( I really LIKED Colonel Potter!)
    In His service;

I find it *most* discouraging that after my last post about unity we get such a post as Jim's...

    Very revealing...

I will accept it in the spirit it was posted...

Jim? Are you sure you're not reading the Quoran?

SMM, you don't have to *accept* it in the "spirit" that it was posted. Just brush it aside and consider it rubbish!...as in worthless material!

Hey what is that scripture that goes something like "these things and greater shall you do"? Can someone look it up and post it for me?

(I got a new computer & lost my old links.)

Did Paul or Peter keep a tally of all that were healed and raised? Don't forget the nameless people that recived peices of cloth that propbly got healed, or that was touched by the shadow. Wasn't it John that said, "if all that was writted about everything that Jesus did the whole world couldn't contain it? [IMG]

This is an arrogant claim. There is no hard evidence that it ever came true. And of course if it didn't, it is simply another proof that he, like most other Charismatic leaders, is a false prophet.
