Gina, I have come to believe that because profits are what drives our media that we do not get fair and balanced reporting ... and many topics are ignored as the media does not want to make their advertisers and stock holders angry.

Also, political talk/news programs will not ask tough questions. If they did so politicians would simply refuse to appear on their programs.

In the US the media is driven by profits ... except for PBS. The News Hour gives lots more time to topics and includes guests on both sides of an issue.

BBC is good and not driven by the desire for profit.

The only form of media that isn't owned and controlled by corporate interests is the alternative meda.

PBS is funded by the same corporate interests that own and control the "mass" media. The proof is in the end credits in every program.

We only hear what the corporate interests want us to hear. And it's in their interest to keep us divided and uninformed.

We should all get our information from sources like Huff-Po as Komrade CTB does and then we'll get the straight talk

I've been reading BBC News for a long time. The fact is that they take an anti-administration stance depending on which coalition is in power. So, since the Conservatives are now in power they will lean to the left. When Blair and Brown were in power they leaned right. They see their mission as a check on government.

Also, I would take the right wing Daily Telegraph's opinion on competitor's BBC's News political leanings with a grain of salt.

As to PBS Newshour, when I used to watch TV news it was one of the best, if not the best, programs.

They always lean left. In fact they do not just lean they get up and move on over.

BBC Director General Mark Thompson has admitted the corporation was guilty of a 'massive' Left-wing bias in the past.

The TV chief also admitted there had been a 'struggle' to achieve impartiality and that staff were ' mystified' by the early years of Margaret Thatcher's government.

Like the American progressive media establishment, Britain's media has been beset with charges that liberal stories and research are promoted while conservative leaning stories and sources are eschewed and a new study claims to confirm the accusation.

The new study by the Centre for Policy Studies, a London-based, center-right think tank, says that it has compiled enough statistics to show the BBC's left-wing bias.

"Our results suggest the BBC exhibits a left-of-centre bias in both the amount of coverage it gives to different opinions and the way in which these voices are represented," said Oliver Latham, author of the Bias at the Beeb report.
