FORMER TALIBAN CAPTIVES URGE BAPTISTS TO BOOST MISSION EFFORTS (St. Louis-AP) -- Two missionaries who were imprisoned by the Taliban for months have challenged the Southern Baptist Convention to help this generation reach everyone with the Gospel. Heather Mercer told the Baptists' annual meeting in St. Louis that even if world evangelism costs the church everything, it really will have cost nothing "because all we really wanted was Jesus anyway." Dayna Curry told the Baptists that after Jesus healed her from alcohol, drugs and an abortion, she realized that God was broken-hearted too -- because so many people don't know Him. Curry said that's why she became a missionary. In her words, "Since God had healed my broken heart, I wanted to help heal His."
