Four Israeli ships were redirected due to terror threats

Four Israeli ships were redirected on Friday after receiving a warning from Transportation Minister Meir Shetreet of security risks in Turkey.

The ships, carrying thousands of vacationers, were intended to dock in the port-city of Alania, Turkey.

Shetreet was informed of the intentions of terrorist organizations to attack Israelis in the region and ordered the ships to change course.

There were no other warnings of attacks on the ships, the Transportation Ministry told The Jerusalem Post.

However, the Shin Bet informed The Post that concrete and specific threats of attacks on Israelis in Turkey have been received over the last few days.

The ships were to dock in neighboring ports on Friday, and were planning to dock in Alania on Saturday.

Turkey was recently struck by a terror attack on July 16, when a bomb blast destroyed a minibus in the seaside resort town Kusadasi, killing five.

Two Istanbul synagogues were also attacked by suicide bombers on November 15, 2003.
