I am trying to find a good filtering internet program that is a free download.

I have a teenage daughter who usually gets her time on the computer when I am not home, and I want something to help me to not stumble into someplace I really don't need to be...

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

dansguardian is the name of an open source content filter. I know it works on Linux, and I believe that there is a windows port.

It is better than services from an ISP like Bess, or the one from AOL, bceause it runs on the system being protected, so you can't connect in a way that gets around it.

I have a related thread about Linux/Unix filters going too.

    Superdave,

The other thread is what prompted me to open this one.

Where can I get ahold of dansgaurdian?

    Sorry, I led you on.

Dansguardian at this point is only available for Linux and several distros of UNIX.

I will keep my eyes open.

I tried one of those but had to turn it off. It completely shut down my dns, I am going to have to check out the config. I have so many firewalls, proxies, routers, etc to configure in my home network now, adding a piece of software can be a major undertaking.

Still no dice on the UNIX side, I have not had time to figure out why the programs won't compile properly even after I added the supporting software and dev tools asked for by the readme.

I am really more of an O/S maintainer, so I can fix Solaris problems in my sleep, and actually do on a regular basis, but the application side is rather complex, and most of my experience is with Linux apps.
