First of all, The Washington Post tends to lean left more than not, so i'm not so sure their commentary would be considered fair and balanced.
As for what McCain said, in context is: "the fundamentals of our economy are strong but these are very, very difficult times and I promise you we will never put America in this position again."
If the fundamentals of our economy were not strong, then we would have nothing to build upon and get us back to where we belong. If the fundamentals of our economy were not strong the only other option would be to tear it up, tear it out and start anew. Given, i realize that many on the left would like to do that and move into the realm of socialism; Maxine Waters call for "socializing...uhhhh, um..." of the oil companies is a great example of this.
McCain has always had plenty to worry about concerning his chances.
The news is that it now appears that the invincable godlike Mr. Obama does, too.
In spite of all the help he gets from the corrupt old media.
