I hesitate to hold one at church.

But, if I am doing something for which I need funding, I would have a garage sale at my house in a new york minute.

Our church encourages our youth to earn the money for their summer trips, mission or otherwise. The kids sell calendars, recycle newspapers and ink jet cartridges. We've talked about the 'yard sale' where people could obtain a table for $10.00 and those who wanted to could donate what they'd like above that to the group.

I was always the child whose family couldn't afford the choir trips, camps, etc. and some deacon would always step up and pay my way. I was thankful but would have much rather been able to help earn my way to camp.

I have no problem with this type 'fund raiser' for specific purposes. Our church is very well funded.
