Why should gasoline be the only product that sells for less than people are willing to pay?

In Southeast Georgia, we typically run 30 cents cheaper than over the border in Florida.

    Today, regular unleaded is 2.88.

Gas was $2.43 yesterday morning, and $2.99 this morning, (for Super Unleaded, ethanol gas, which is cheaper than regular gas) We also have 85% corn ethanol available in some places (as opposed to 15%). 85% is about $1.80 per gallon.

The Gas Wars have begun. I am from Naples, Florida. People were lined up to fill up there tanks at 2.99 a gal. Most of the Gas stations are already out of Gas. There are people pulled over because they ran out of gas. Prices are going up and up.

Let the Markets settle this. The rules of economics will prevail if we all are patient.

BTW, it was Oil Company assts that were destroyed in the Gulf. They're taking a big hit also.

In Atlanta, my mother-in-law saw gas prices rise from $3.15 to $6.07 by noon. Apparently, somebody reported those gas stations, and since Georgia has a price gouging law (or so I've been told), gas was back down to $3.45 by the end of yesterday. Gas station owners making $$ is fine by me. Gas station owners exploiting the consumer isn't Ok.

I was pleasantly surprised when our local Casey's didn't jack up their prices on Monday. On 9/11/01, they were the first ones to jack up their prices to over $2.

I've seen gas as highas $3.29 at the Pilot and Flying J Truck Stops here in Central Ohio on Interstate 70. Everywhere else in the Newark Heath area are $2.99- $3.09. Normally those 2 truck stops run aywhere from 10 to 20 cents a gallon less! I want everyone to understand that LOL is Laughing Out Loud, OMG, is OH MY Goodness, and WTH is What The Heck! [IMG]

In Italy, they sell their gas in liters. When I lived there 5 years ago, I found out how many liters it would to make a gallon. It came to about $4. I thought how fortunate we were in the States and how that we would never have to pay so much for gas. I think I was wrong!
