Or if we were around a tourist area, they would say "Stupid Yank" and shake their heads. :)

Same in the UK! I wonder what Americans call what we Brits know as "gas" - that invisible stuff which can be ignited to cook our food or warm our houses?

Natural gas, LP, or propane depending on which it is :)

Sometimes it is just called "gas" and you know what it is by context. i.e.

[While driving} I need to stop for gas.
I need gas for the grill.

And then there is "I've got gas," but that is a whole different story. [Think "wind" on this side of the pond ;) ]

    Increase in UK petrol prices

I've just heard that prices for petrol in the UK are set to rise on Monday by 2 pence per litre, that is, about 10 pence per UK gallon, or 7.6 pence per US gallon.

Looking at I 95, I4 and I75 you must be one of the few. I go to NC or Va. every other day and I 95 is still full as well as the other highways I take.

The wife filled up the tank today, and there were lines at all the "gas stands." It's supposed to go up 4 yen per liter tomorrow in Japan. That's about 15 cents per gallon, folks! :tonofbricks:

The rate of excise duty on unleaded petrol in Australia is 38.1 cents per litre......the average level of tax included in petrol prices for the OECD countries shown was A$1.04 per litre in the first quarter of 2006. In comparison, the level of tax included in unleaded petrol prices in Australia for this quarter was less than half this amount at A$0.49 per litre...... - Source

.00000001¢ a litre would still be too much to give them  :)

Since we are talking about so many different countries, and exchange rates here is a link to help http://www.x-rates.com/d/AUD/table.html

If I figured it right, Pete would be paying about 1.30 US $ per gallon for tax.

    Any math majors?

Conversion program says a US gallon is 3.785 litres. Currently that would cost about $AU4.65, or $US4.12 (about $AU1.229/l at the moment). If rate of AU49¢ in taxes is close to right that would be $AU1.854 per gallon in tax, or $US1.64.

......and now I have a headache.....thanks SALTY...... :tonofbricks:  :wavey:

More boring trivia from conversion program, it says my car gets around 23.5 miles per gallon on highway.

Looks like it's time for a revolution, just follow America's lead...

You must get breaks or don't have to pay other forms of taxes we pay or where is all this money going?

    My conversion process -

1.14 (pump price) euro cent per litre x 3.79 to get a US gallon x 1.40 (rough conversion euro to dollar)

Why should retailers charge less than motorists are willing to pay?

First euro is never capitalised. Second I always had a problem with decimal points. :)

    $6.05 a gallon would be correct :)
