From a local paper here in WV...
    http://www.bcn-news.com/editorial.html

    Pain at the pumps...
    ,,,,,,

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?
    Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ...... $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ...... $9.52 per gallon
    Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ...... $10.17 per gallon
    Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ...... $10.00 per gallon
    Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ...... $33.60 per gallon
    Vick’s Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ...... $178.13 per gallon
    Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 ...... $123.20 per gallon
    Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ...... $25.42 per gallon
And this is the real kicker...
    Evian water 9 oz $1.49 ...... $21.19 per gallon!
$21.19 for WATER and the buyers don’t even know the source

So, the next time you’re at the pump, be glad your car doesn’t run on water, or Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, or Nyquil.
Maybe milk would make a good alternative fuel… its now cheaper than gasoline. Perhaps someone can get a grant to study that concept.
Don’t be surprised to see a fuel surcharge added to any or all of these items in the future. These skyrocketing fuel prices are and will affect nearly everything at some point.…
Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump...

That's really not a fair comparison. Everybody knows we consume more fuel that any of the other items listed in the comparison. If fuel cost the same as Pepto Bismol by the gallon, it would be fine with me, that is if I only used it the same amount of times.

I don't know about that...I consume water pretty regularly and ever since I got my scooter I definitely am not consuming that much gasoline.

Also, ever since my days at the ole seminary I consume about 4 gallons of Nyquil a day just for "creative" influences in sermons. ;)

If Pepto Bismol were delivered by the tanker truck load, it would be cheaper than in little bottles.

There is another aspect of the price of gasoline today.

In the 70's (post Carter) gasoline was was around 1.00/gallon.

However the median salary range was from 8-10K/annum.

So that brings the price up to about 2.00/gallon at today's dollar.

ALSO: I was getting around 12/MPG with my Ford V8.
Today I get 30+ MPG with my Park Avenue!
Almost 3X more than back then.

Actually then compared to my income, it's still less than the 70's (post Carter) when I was just out of college and supporting a family as well.

That would have been "during" the Carter administration not "post".
