So far we know that Gitmo will be closed. The plans are still being developed as to what happens maybe as long as a year from now.

It's like stating that one is going to go to college but not yet knowing which college one will attend. Just because one doesn't know yet which college does not mean that he can't go ahead and announce that he is going to college.

George W. Bush spent a great deal of the time since 9/11/2001 dragging the good name of the United States of America through the mud. I don't expect the Obama administration to have all of the answers and to fix everything in the first two days of its existence.

No problem. We have the likes of Unabom Ted Kazinsky and WTC bomber Ramsey Yousef at Supermax here in Colorado. They haven't bothered me yet. And they had fair trials.

Why do you think for one minute that these "detainees" should have the same rights as you and I , CITIZENS of the UNITED STATES?

They don't have the rights I have....and they never will as long as they threaten our nation and its inhabitants. Line em up and shoot em??? That is what they would do in a split second to you and me, the infidels. Or do you think that they want warm and fuzzy hugs? Hmmm...liberal or conservative, black or white, gay or straight, they would KILL US ALL if given the chance, and they are about to get that chance.

Obama is making a HUGE mistake by doing this. These people have no rights.

We should hold them as long we want. We should try them by military tribunals and execute them if they're determined to be terrorists. Release them if they're found innocent and we're comfortable they are not a future threat.

We always repatriate prisoners-of-war (those that fit the definition of lawful enemy combatants) at the end of hostilities. The principle behind that is that they did nothing wrong of their own accord but were acting under the authority of their government. This is a requirement of the treaties to which we've agreed.

Terrorists don't fit this category - they never have and never should - and more akin to pirates, spies, saboteurs, etc. They are not the combatants or civilian internees addressed by the treaties to which we've agreed. They are not citizens "arrested" for alleged crimes by law enforcement and entitled to the due process we have established under criminal law. They are unlawful enemy combatants captured in war by our military.

Some of us have lost our ability to discern the difference!

These are not persons arrested by law enforcement. These are terrorists captured in war by our military. They do not have all of the same "rights" as a person in America charged with a criminal offense.

This is not a knew concept for Americans. The new thinking is that they are one and the same! Some of us have lost our ability to discern the difference.
