Does anyone here have Gmail (by Google)?

I'd love a (free) GMail invitation.

Google plans to allow Gmail users to store up to 1 GB of e-mails and attachments in their accounts -- far more storage space than competitors Yahoo Mail and Hotmail offer. But Gmail is still in beta and the public can't sign up yet. You have to have an invitation from Google employees or associates to open a test account. In the earliest days of Gmail, only Google employees and their friends got the accounts. Now, more people have them as Google offered 6 invitations to each beta user.

My Yahoo Mail account increased to 100MB.

Myway.com will also increase mailboxes to 100MB next week.

I have MYWAY.COM for my mail and they will be increasing to 125MB.

I like it far better than Yahoo.

I bought mine late last night, so it's possible that not too many people were bidding [IMG]

$4 is still not bad for 1GB of storage and the username of choice (instead of yourchoice679435) [IMG]

I got one and it wasn't that great. Who really needs 1gb of space? I prefer yahoo, and it went up to 100 mb.

I got my Gmail the other day. It has some great mail filter controls; much better than Hotmail. I bought mine on eBay for $3.96.

I think it's funny how there is a (black?) market for Gmail invitations on eBay. Since you can only get Gmail by invitation only, people just sell the invitations on eBay. I'm sure this isn't what Google intended. Oh well!

    God bless,
    Jason

Google could easily crush the invitation market by offering more invites.

I'm sure there is a reason why they keep invites on short supply.

I keep checking my Gmail and looking for some invitations. None yet!

Another nice benefit of Gmail: email in real time (like AOL). When you get an email, it shows it immediately without making you refresh the screen, click Inbox, etc.

You should all really check out the actual security fine print on Gmail.

Google is piloting a new advertising tool, their servers will scan all mail going through their servers for keywords in order to deliver customized advertising to their "free" gmail customers.

They have not given specifics yet on how long they will keep the data in their systems, or how it will be accessed by their "advertizing partners"

Basically they would have data in their systems for some period of time that details the user account, and the subject matter keywords contained in the email transactions, that is scary.

I have spoken to a few people in my company who do corporate email security, and they have warned me to stick with yahoo, or preferably the imap servers that I use from my isp and my work.

I heard about that also. Supposedly Gmail will scan through the email messages and attempt to show advertisements related to what is being discussed. If you are discussing cars in the email, there might be an ad from Chevy or Ford, etc. People concerned about privacy have been very concerned about it. I am not too worried about it, but I think I will stay with Yahoo for now since I don't think I will need more than 100 MB of storage for a while.
