    For $10 i got a STRONGEST STRONG'S. It
lists for the KJV1769 all the Hebrewr Greek
terms by number, then you lookup the
Hebrew or Greek terms by the number.
    (Hense the term "Strong's number").
That way you don't even need to know the
order of the alphabet (to look up
a term in a list). Both Hebrew and Greek
do not use our Latin alphabet.

I'm not sure a Strongs is worth the $10
(unless you have lots of internet service
interruption), but it was on sale [IMG]

Again, i'm not saying to hock your KJB to
    buy a Greek Lexicon.

    Thanks Ed. :D

RJ? Of course I am aware that the Bible I tuck under my arm for "going to church, etc" is not an AV1611.
I DO have Tyndale's, Wycliffe's, Geneva, Darby's, Young's literal, KJ2000, WEB, AND the KJV1611 on my Sword Searcher software. So, your diatribe and attempt to derail this discussion have fallen on "deaf" ears.
That being said, I LIKE THE MONIKER! Got a problem with that? Then it is YOUR problem, not mine.

I have tons of resources available to me via the Internet, and my software. Big deal.
I have said, and maintain that learning the Greek IS NOT necessary for a Christian man/woman to understand Scriputre. I have said, (and you fellas ignore) that one may rely SOLELY on the Holy Spirit to bring understanding of Scripture. Only one fella replied to my worthy example of Dwight Moody. Would any of you dare to say that man was NOT a tremendous testimony to this point?

No. I dare say, that with about 1 or 2 exceptions, ya'll ducked that one. (To a MAN!)

I would also remind you all that the "scholarly" resources Mr. Moody had available in his time were every bit as solid as what you got today. He just chose not to use them but relied solely of God, his Bible, and occasionally a dictionary. His extraordinary example of what God does with a man who casts "scholarship" aside and trusts God alone is my illustration for you all to consider while you are forming your NEXT rebuttal. [IMG]

    Jim,

Back to your original question ...

... Does it do you good to learn the original language ...

Well, the problem is one of symantic domain - do you have a windshield or a windscreen? Is the colour blue? Or, is it color?

In every language there are shifts in meaning. What you are faced with in GNT studies is that WE CANNOT get to the original language ... It is dead, and there is no absolute method of getting there.

The comment was made that someone with a year or two of Greek could be dangerous. Any one that attempts to tell you that they "know" Greek IS dangerous. It is better to think you know a little, than to think you know much.

As an example, "propitiation", there is NO OTHER TERM IN ENGLISH for this concept. We do not have a substitutionary sacrificial system. Therefore, we do not have any words that would appropriately fit the semantic domain. So, we must fudge a lot.

    God Bless,

    Craigbythesea,

I do believe that many people assume that the original language will make them understand the text better.

But, IMHO you cannot "understand" a language you cannot function (Dream & feel) in ... Note: you can communicate ... you just cannot get it all.

Craig: Was that Swahili enough for you?

Mtu yeyote akiungana na Kristo huwa kiumbe kipya, mambo ya kale yamepita, hali mpya imefika.

I'm certainly glad that I do not moderate this particular section. I don't know if Craig is calling us idiots or preaching to us.
    :D ;)

Und so, Gott sei gelobet und gebenedeiet

    Gott sei gelobet und gebenedeiet,
    Der uns selber hat gespeiset
Mit seinem Fleische und mit seinem Blute,
Das gib uns, Herr Gott, zugute!
    Kyrieleison!
    Herr, durch deinen heiligen Leichnam,
Der von deiner Mutter Maria kam,
    Und das heilige Blut
Hilf uns, Herr, aus aller Not!
    Kyrieleison!

Der heil'ge Leichnam ist für uns gegeben
    Zum Tod, daß wir dadurch leben;
Nicht größre Güte konnt' er uns geschenken,
    Debei wir sein soll'n gedenken.
    Kyrieleison!
Herr, dein' Lieb' so groß dich zwungen hat,
Daß dein Blut an uns groß' Wunder tat
    Und bezahlt' unsre Schuld,
Daß uns Gott ist worden hold.
    Kyrieleison!

Gott geb' uns allen seiner Gnade Segen,
Daß wir gehn auf seinen Wegen
In rechter Lieb' und brüderlicher Treue,
Daß uns die Speis' nicht gereue.
    Kyrieleison!
Herr, dein Heil'ger Geist uns nimmer laß',
Der uns geb' zu halten rechte Mass,
    Daß dein' arm' Christenheit
    Leb' in Fried' und Einigkeit!
    Kyrieleison!
