I was reading a post where Dr. Bob said, "the pale of orthodox Christianity." Now this phrase reminded me of Mr. Hank Hanegraaff because in the past I used to hear him quiet often and have read two of his books. He uses a phrase similar to this one a lot.

Having thought about Mr. Hanegraaff and his, "Bible Answer Man" radio show, I thought it would be interesting to find out what the consensus here at the Baptist Board is concerning this man and his ministry.

Well Terry, It depends on how much you want to believe here:
www.gospelcom.net/apologeticsindex/h13.html
My feeling is that, IMHO, sometimes listening to him, he could have a little more patience with some callers to his show, but maybe that's just me. I don't know enough about him, or the things spoken of at the above web sight to make a firm judgement.

Dr. Bob also uses strange words like "ilk." Never saw that word until I joined this board! [IMG]

I visit the aplogetics website quite frequently.
I have learned quite a bit while there too.
While IU have seen what they have on there about Hank, I have read, used, and LOVE his book "Christianity In Crisis"
I agree that he needs a bit more patience when dealing with certain callers, but I have yet to hear him answer a question unbiblical.

There have been examples about him plagiarizing others in his books. Also the family of the late Dr. Walter Martin believe Hanagraff bullied his way into taking over CRI after Dr. Martin's death. Details and links about both are at Dr. Martin's website, maintained by his family at:

Hanegraaff:

1. Is a charismatic.

2. Is an ecumenical.

3. Believes that God sending people to hell is an act of mercy.

4. Makes merchandise of the gospel.

He is a man who knows just enough about the Bible to come accross as being learned in the Scriptures and thus deceive the hearts of the simple. In reality, he is just another half baked Bapticostal.

Trapper,

Hanegraaff believes it is possible to exercise the charismatic gifts - tongues, miracles, prophecy, etc. etc. That is what I mean by "charismatic."

By contrast, the Scriptures teach that faith, hope, and love are the only three abiding spiritual gifts.

I am not wild about all he says and I do not agree with his uses of other bibles, but he will have to answer to God for what he says and does. At least he is doing something.

</font>
Never heard that said before. Why do you think that faith, hope, and love are "spiritual gifts" (as Paul defines them), and why are they the only ones left?

Not good. Not good at all. If you donate to CRI, you can see where money goes or where it doesn't. They can lose their tax-exempt status over this.

The article about financial improprieties and mistreatment of employees is disturbing. I will state that calling Mr. Hanegraaff a "charismatic" is COMPLETELY UNFOUNDED! In his book "Counterfeit Revival" Hank clearly comes across as believing that the charismatic "gifts" are fake! That Hank stops short of completely condemning "tongues" (when exercised in accordance with biblical guidelines, i.e. witnesses and interpreters) is probably wise.

For years Hank and the gang at CRI have been in a swrill of mistrust and "odd" looking situations that require a variety of explainations. There are far better people doing what he does that have far better character.

Scott,

Because Paul said in I Corinthians chapter 13 that faith, hope and love would remain while the other gifts would cease.

HEY

How did I get into this thread?

I will admit two things: I love language and am sorry that I use words common to my family but little-used by others. And I know nothing, don't listen to or read, this Hank guy.

(For those who did not know, "beyond the pale" refers to the limits of settlement of Jews in Eastern Europe prior to WWII; "ilk" is one of the short, harsh AngloSaxon words that are my heritage - like elk, buck, oak and just about every 4-letter word we cuss with)

Now, back to your discussion.

I have never heard Hannegraff on the radio. I do enjoy his magazine when I get a chance to read it, but most of that is written by other people.

From 1 Cor 13:8: If you say that faith hope and love are the only three remaining, then are you also saying that knowledge is done away with also. You seem to indicate that all is in the present tense.

This has nothing to do with the historical context of 1 Corinthians.

Scott,

Because Paul said in I Corinthians chapter 13 that faith, hope and love would remain while the other gifts would cease.

Mark Osgatharp
</font>
This is the easiest thing I've ever had to disprove. First of all, I Corinthians 13:13 says that faith, hope, and love "remain." Present tense. However, at the same time he is writing this passage, he speaks of other spiritual gifts that are also occuring simultaneous to the "remaining" of faith, hope, and love. We must also note that faith, hope, and love are never mentioned as spiritual gifts the way that Paul frequently defines them.

And before we go to the prophecies and tongues ceasing, you must also note that these two alone are mentioned, and the ceasing is in the future tense, while the "remaining" is in the present.

See how easy that was?
