If it's such a hgreat hymn (and I, too, think it is), why would you want to tear it up?

    David,

I think you and I read this the same way, he didn't mean tear it up as in "rip it up", but tear it up, as in "bring tears to one's eyes" - a transatlantic misunderstanding on our part.

That makes much more sense! Thanks! It set me wondering, not for the first time, how anyone whose first language is not English ever learns our language :) . Thanks again.

I love Casting Crowns, especially the one Tama posted. Speaking of tearing up,:tear: how about anything by Ray Boltz. I love the way his songs tell a story. Close to the CC song Tama is this one on his:

The idea of Paul and Silas praising God in the prison, BEFORE the earthquake. To say, “I will praise the lord, No matter what tomorrow brings.” Wow.

    Bro. David -

"Tearing up" was in response to LeBuick saying that the hymn (There is a Fountain) brought tears to his eyes. Sorry, I'll try to temper my South United States English.

Psalm 139 was my devotional this morning. When the psalmist said, "You have searched me and known me... Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way." When I surrender, when I love the Lord with everything I have, then even the bones He has broken in disciplining me will rejoice.

    Give It All Away
Aaron Shust from the CD ANYTHING WORTH SAYING

Search my heart, search my mind, search my soul.
Make me clean, make me new, make me whole.

All of my plans, all of my dreams, I lay them down before Your feet.
All of my time, all that was "mine," I now submit to Your design.
'Cause You are the One and only One who dared to give it all away for me.

You are my strength, You are my God, You are my King.
You make me laugh, You make me dance, You make me sing.

All of my plans, all of my dreams, I lay them down before Your feet.
All of my time, all that was "mine," I now submit to Your design.
'Cause You are the One and only One who dared to give it all away for me.

Everything inside, everything outside, I give it all away.
You never change, but You rearrange my heart more everyday!

All of my plans, all of my dreams, I lay them down before Your feet.
All of my time, all that was "mine," I now submit to Your design.
'Cause You are the One who can make my life complete,
You are the One who can give light to my feet,
You are the One and only One who dared to give it all away for me.

Search my heart, search my mind, search my soul.

When was the last time I was an encouragement to someone... instead of adding to their burden? As a church, when was the last time the body of believers reached out to someone and told them God loved them instead of how angry He was with them?

    Head Held High
Warren Barfield from the CD REACH

They say you learn from your mistakes,
Well I guess I should be a genius
For all the times I've fallen on my face,
    Tangled in my weakness.
    Wishing someone would say:

Keep your head held high, don't stop believing,
You are God's child, and His strength is stronger than your weakness.
    Keep your head held high.

    Well it's a crying shame
We're walking around with our secrets.
So afraid of what others might think,
    Living safe and living defeated.
    Wanting someone to say:

Keep your head held high, don't stop believing,You are God's child, and His strength is stronger than your weakness.
    Keep your head held high.

We shuld confess our sin, we should love...
Church, it's time we begin to build one another up.

Come on... keep your head held high, don't stop believing,
You are God's child, and His strength is stronger than your weakness.
    Keep your head held high.

In Christ, our happiness and joy is found in things that are in direct paradox with the world. How does it work? No clue. Somehow it all makes sense.

    In You
Shane and Shane from the CD PAGES

I sing for joy in my remorse,
    A well within prosperity's curse
That drowns the mighty oak of pride
But feeds the root of God inside.

In You, I find my rest,
In You, I find my death,
In You, I find my all and my emptiness
    Somehow it all makes sense.

In You, I'm rich when I've been made poor,
    Comfort found when I mourn.
The prideful one You see from afar
Drawing near to low, broken hearts.

In You, I find my rest,
In You, I find my death,
In You, I find my all and my emptiness.
But it all makes sense, in You.

    Why
Michael Card from the CD JOY IN THE JOURNEY

Why did it have to be a friend who chose to betray the Lord?
Why did he use a kiss to show them? That's not what a kiss is for.
Only a friend can betray a friend, a stranger has nothing to gain.
And only a friend comes close enough to ever cause so much pain.

Why did there have to be a thorny crown pressed upon His head?
It should have been a royal one made of jewels and gold instead.
It had to be a crown of thorns because in this life that we live,
For all who who seek to love, a thorn is all the world has to give.

Why did it have to be a heavy cross He was made to bear?
And why did they nail His feet and hands? His love would have held Him there.
It was a cross, for on a cross a thief was supposed to pay.
Jesus had come into the world to steal every heart away.
Yes, Jesus had come into the world to steal every heart away.

I know a third with this same title:

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
    This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost it's grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Brought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
    Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
'Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

This world doesn't need me. They need Jesus. Anything I do or am that detracts from Him is going against the grain of WHO they have to have for salvation!!

    What This World Needs
Casting Crowns from the CD THE ALTAR AND THE DOOR

What this world needs is not another one-hit wonder with an axe to grind,
Another two-bit politician peddling lies, another three-ring circus society.
What this world needs is not another sign-waving super saint that's better than you,
Another ear-pleasing candy man afraid of the truth, another prophet in an Armani suit.

What this world needs is a Savior who will rescue, a Spirit who will lead,
A Father who will love them in their time of need.
A Savior who will rescue, a Spirit who will lead, a Father who will love,
    That's what this world needs!

What this world needs is for us to care more about the inside than the outside,
Have we become so blind that we can't see
God's gotta change her heart before He changes her shirt.
What this world needs is for us to stop hiding behind our relevance,
Blending in so well that people can't see the difference
And it's the difference that sets the world free.

What this world needs is a Savior who will rescue, a Spirit who will lead,
A Father who will love them in their time of need.
A Savior who will rescue, a Spirit who will lead, a Father who will love,
    That's what this world needs!

People aren't confused by the Gospel, they're confused by us.
Jesus is the only way to God, but we are not the only way to Jesus.
This world doesn't need my tithe, my hoodie, my denomination or my translation of the Bible. They just need Jesus!
We can be passionate about what we believe, but we can't strap ourselves to the Gospel, because we're slowing it down.
Jesus is going to save the world, but maybe the best thing we can do is just get out of the way.

Jesus is our Savior, that's what this world needs.
The Father's arms around you, that's what this world needs.
    That's what this world needs.

Worship is more than songs. Worship is crying out to God, praising Him for who He is and what He's done... and then allowing a change in my life based on the knowledge that He's bringing me closer to the image of His Son.

    Vision of You
Shane and Shane from the CD PAGES

    Come meet us, King Jesus,
O wind of change blow through this temple.
Sweet Spirit of God, come and mend our hearts,
For all we have are songs unless You come.

    Awaken what's inside of me,
    Tune my heart to all You are in me;
Even though You're here, God, come.
And may the vision of You be the death of me
And even though You've given everything, Jesus, come.

    Come free us, King Jesus,
It's the only way that freedom's given.
From You and You alone, in the work You've already done,
For all we have are songs unless You come.

Here we are, Lord, in this place
    Crying out for Your embrace.
    To hear Your voice, more than songs;
    Please come, Jesus, come.

    This is Our God
Travis Cottrell from the CD MADE TO WORSHIP

Who is this Light invading our darkness?
Glorious might, the Sun rising for us?
Conquering night, He captures the hardest of hearts.
Who is this Hope that heaven has given?
Coming for souls, our rescue His mission?
Tenderness flows, and without condition He loves.

This is our God, living and breathing.
Call Him courageous, relentless and brave.
This is our God, loving and reaching,
Scandalous mercy and might to save.
Hallelujah! This is our God! Sing praise!

Who is this One who will not condemn us?
Why would He come to shoulder our sentence?
Nothing we've done will keep Him from giving us grace.
Who is this One? We watch and we're speechless.
God's only Son embracing our weakness.
He overcomes all death, and He frees us to live.

This is our God, suffering and dying.
Call Him the Hero redeeming the lost.
This is our God, love sacrificing,
All that is holy accepting our cross.
Hallelujah! This is our God! Sing praise!

This is our God, living and breathing.
Call Him courageous, relentless and brave.
This is our God, loving and reaching,
Scandalous mercy and might to save.
Hallelujah! This is our God! Sing praise!
