    POSTED: 6:02 pm EDT April 5, 2006

Maybe not sane, but a generation ago when we were going to school, there sure was more common sense. These people have none.

Yes, a few generations ago, I shook hands, but never hugged. That would not be manly where I grew up. I am still somewhat reserved about hugging in public.

    Cheers,

    Jim

My kids are allowed to hug as much as they want in school. In fact its encouraged. They also get hugs from their teacher (Mom) and the Principle (Me).

I am a school bus driver, and occasionally a kid wants to hug us. That is absolutely forbidden! Even if the kid knows you from elsewhere. My son was suspended for getting a "good luck" hug from a friend before a game. (She was not suspended, and she is absolutely just a friend.) We hug at our church all the time, and the kids learn from us, then we have to tell them not to do it and they somehow get the impression that it's always wrong.

We're talking about two 5-year-old girls here, not an adult and a child, or even a boy and a girl!

I was a school crossing guard for over 20 years and I got hugs everyday. Most of the kids called me Grandma...
