As when i was in High school, same scientists were on TV and in Time/Newsweek warning us that a global ice Age was at hand, human race at stake , while thnis past decade we were toild that we could die from effects global warming!

recently, think tank of scientists forced to admit that current warming trends were based directly to large extent ob Solar falres and sun spot cycles, NOT human effecting environment, and recently UN had to back track of global warming facts....

Anyonr bought into the hype, and bogus 'scientific facts' involved in this?

Do you check for spelling and grammar before you hit post? To answer your question no, we do not take any part in that myth.

    Great gravy man...edit!

Anyhoo, we don't talk about politics at our church (well at least from the platform.) We've got too much other important stuff to talk about and it isn't appropriate. That said we do encourage people to engage in proper stewardship of all things and part of that is creation care. We believe that God has given us this world to be proper stewards of it and tend to it appropriately. Thus environmental stewardship (or conservation) is part of that ethic.

As for the "hoax" of global warming...I don't think its a hoax at all. We are going through a period of warming and the evidences of it are all over the place. Now whether humanity contributes directly to it is the better question. We need to be advocating for more environmentally conscious activities and not less. We need to advocate for lower emissions and better treatment of waste. Otherwise we fail in our basic command of stewarding the creation God gave us. :)

I don't believe it is a hoax. The planet is clearly getting warmer. Do I think it is to the extent that environmentalist claim? NO!

If the planet is as old as they claim, then how do they know that the planet has not gone through a similar warm period a million years ago? Furthermore what is the correct temperature of the planet?

Global warming (climate change) is not a myth. It is a very real phenomenon. The questions is, what causes it? One group, the Al Gore bunch, claim it is caused by mankind. The climatologists who actually know what they are talking about know it is caused by changes in the sun's activity. When the frequency of sun spots declines so does the surface temperature of the Earth. When sun spots increase so does the surface temperature of the Earth.

The question to ask the Gore mythers is this, "If global warming is caused by mankind, why are the ice caps on Mars shrinking?" Duh!

Does mankind contribute to the phenomenon? Possibly, but in such a small percentage that it is virtually negligible. If mankind stopped ALL greenhouse gas emissions it would only lower the average surface temperature of the Earth by from .5 to .75 degrees, and it would take a hundred years for that change to occur.

By the way, global temperature has been coming down since 2000 (although there was a slight peak in 2005).

Its not a myth, but neither should we start running around shouting "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!"

Why is this question relevant on a Baptist Debate forum? Why would the topic even be brought up in a Baptist sermon or lesson other than as a passing comment while dicussing more general stewardship of God's creation?

probably for the same reason that we have discussed items such as Theistic Evolution and age of the earth here before...

its baptists talking current 'scientific fact!"

i knoaws athid is ridiculuos. cant evern erad what thid feller sayd.

I've never seen someone have such little disregard for subjects in sentences. It's almost like he's translating his thoughts straight from Italian, since they're not always necessary in that language.

Well we all have our typo's and failings in editing, but here there seems to be a complete disregard altogether.

    Short answer is NO.

Regardless of what "scientists" speculate, God is still the final authority on what happens to the earth He created. If it's within His will, Florida and NYC will be under sea water. Or the land bridge from Asia to North America will re-appear.

Just a tid-bit of information. Our local National Weather official reporting station is located on a heat island. An international airport with massive amounts of paving for runways and parking lots. During the summer the "offical" high temperature recorded is often several degrees hotter than any of the surrounding unofficial reporting sites. Sometimes the difference is so much that local weather forecasters comment there must be a malfunction in the sensor at the airport.

Iffen I ain't go no axe to grind, I ain't gonna bother nobody bout they's using dat dar shiften key thingy an other stuff lack dat. Cause it ain't no nevermind as long as I ken git the gist of'en of what they axed we'ns.

I've been a might touchy about that since I received an F on a term paper in college. My professor told me it was one of the better ones submitted. He was forced to give me an F because I had a typo resulting in a mis-spelled word. That was one of the rules for the paper. A spelling error would result in a failing grade. That was back in the days of manual typewriters and erasers with a little brush on one end. I didn't catch the typo and he couldn't forgive me of my sin.

Perhaps the best question here, for JesusFan2, is why do you believe this is a hoax?

mainly due to the fact that the earth HAS gone through various cycles for past thousands of years, ranging from ice Age to summer warming acroos whole earth, all before man was developing the gasoline engine, fuel tankers, oil plants etc!

Also, since there IS a known variable back and forth in temperatures, there has been littile to no hard factual data supporting linking mans use of energy to global weather pattern being affected!

Also, there has been recent admissions from UN science team some of the proper "factual reporting' was bad, and also a recent European science report detaling the main prominent factor in earth heating/coolind is dependent upon Sun sun spot/flares activities!

Also think that there IS a political agenda behind it, to force a certain view that we need to "fairly share and distribute" the earth resources, for especially American to quit 'hogging using them!"

Ed B, do you not think at least the contemplation of human activity belongs in a discussion about general stewardship of creation? I am with several others in that the warming of the globe is real phenomenon, however, as to whether it is simply cyclic in nature or is some degree affected by our actions, the jury is still out. I think it reasonable that we at least consider the possibility that our actions may contribute and we should continue to progress in our science and technology to attempt to arrive at producing energy which has a minimal impact. It should NOT serve, as it does in the case with many "libs", to spure creation worship and deification.

that part of your posting is the key to this for me, as I do not have a problem with us using tech to clean up the environment as much as it is "pratical", but do see it as becoming almost quai religion, as IF you want to still keep using oil/gas/coal etc instead of "going green' are going against will of God!

many have gone to instead just being good stewerds to worshipping "gaia/Mother earth!" even in "Christian circles"

 OK, that made me laugh out loud.

    Well said and best said.

What makes me roll my eyes in disgust at the Al Gore mentality is that these people seem to believe that nature is the pinnacle of God's Creation and that mankind is the evolutionary pariah of the universe.

The Bible says that mankind was given dominion, as you say, making us the pinnacle, we are the only part of creation made in God's image .... and, yes, that makes us very accountable. We should be still taking care of the planet. We are still the caretakers.

But we are not accountable for every time the climate shifts or every time a volcano erupts or every time the sun sprays solar wind every where or every time a meteor zooms past.

We aren't quite that grandiose.

I think we agree on the important parts.

I think it is very reasonable to consider our stewardship of God's creation. I do not believe that the question of whether the primary source of global warming is human activity or sun spot activity has any impact on whether I should be a good steward of God's creation. It is irrelevant. We should be good stewards regardless. There are solid reasons to support clean air, clean water and clean energy initiatives without taking a side on the cause of global warming. That question digressed into a political debate long ago and as you mention, has in some cases provided an alter or cause for neo-pagans and their creation worship.
