Couldn't agree more. Sure it's funny, cute... but we are taking about prayer, talking with God - how was he honored by those pastor's words? He wasn't in my opinion. Who are people talking about...not God that's for sure

In a private prayer between you and God - sure.

In public with your wife there - and now everyone looking at her as "smokin' hot" - I don't think so.

My hubby would be "smokin' hot" in the doghouse!

When you look into scripture we never see any such kind of praying. Can you imagine the Lord praying to the Father like that? I think it shows the worldly state of many in the church today in a total lack of faith and a total lack of discernment public or private.

No Christian would have prayed such a prayer. This is the prayer of a devil.

I would not go that far, but the prayer being very immature does show that the one praying is also equally immature. By the way he may not be a Christian but on that one thing it is impossible to tell.

That was a performance, not a prayer. It glorified and brought attention to the man, not the Master.

(Getting on a soapbox here) God's name is so holy, so awesome, so perfect, I would be downright scared to address God in this manner even in private, much less in at a public event. God have mercy on us all for our careless treatment of His precious name.:tear: (stepping down off soapbox)

He's probably got a big church with lots of "hot" wives and nascar husbands around to tell him what a great preacher he is.

He was spoofing a scene from Taledega Nights with Will Ferrell which was blasphemous in itself.

If I was a member of his church, I would have stern words with him before I left. He has revealed his true immature spiritual state before the entire nation.

I looked his church up. It seems pretty small, actually.

This Should Not Be Called an Invocation

It was more, and not less, of a comedy routine. Sure it involved the name of Jesus Christ, but that should not automatically qualify it as "prayer!" Sure it came from a well-known preacher, but, again, that does not always qualify every word that proceeds out of the mouth of people as invoking the presence of the Father or lifting up Jesus. And lifting Him up and asking His presence and blessings is what prayer is all about. It is not meant to get a laugh. :tear:

It should have been preceded with a disclaimer that the following was a comedic routine, and a prayer invoking the blessing of God on the event and its participants would immediately follow.

Of course, that is simply my opinion, but, after hearing the words during a radio news sports show. I thought, at first that it was just a comedic routine...boogety, boogety, shoo!

This did not represent the holiness of the Father, but I'm quite sure of this one thing: We'll hear more of this kind of stuff in the days to come, as others will try their best to imitate this guy.

That is the sadness of the whole thing. Others will think it's okay to mock God through this kind of prayers. I can only hope it doesn't become a religious fad.

This kind of thing should be considered "non-sense, or non-prayer!" There is nothing wrong with liking what he said, and laughing at it. It just should have never been considered as an invocation!

Again, I have a great sense of humor, just not when it comes to invoking the blessings of our Father on ANY "event!"

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul :type:
