Got another response from the church. Lord almighty not even WinMan would teach such views.

    My response.

Its not rocks its called the scripture and what you are doing is placing an experience beyond that of the Biblical text and that is what is called New Revelation which is a heretical view. I would not look at Pragmatism as a means to your ends, for surely Joel Osteen, and many others do the same.

You are one unhappy person. And you love sharing it with everyone else.

"Our job is to reflect God rightly."

Yep Pastor - and apparently since you support and promote this movie, you do not do your job.

I think the pastors words and response to YOU were wonderful and spot on.

I'd expect as much from someone like you. Not even WinMan would go to your low in theology.

It is amazing to me how many people do not begin to understand how Paul brought the gospel to the world.
    1. He engaged the people to whom he preached, got to know them, meeting them where they were at -- just like Jesus did
    2. He had a strategy for presenting the gospel to the various people groups he encountered, making it relevant for them according to their beliefs
    3. He "became all things to all men" so that he might reach all the more
When people realize that the gospel isn't a set methodology, an established set of guidelines, a bullet-point fact sheet, they actually begin to be effective in leading people to Christ. The Gospel isn't a system or a formula. It is people, who they are, what they need, when they will listen, where they are at, how they are hurting, why they seek something -- anything -- outside of themselves. It is knowing how to answer those questions with Jesus and have them to actually listen.

When people come to men and women like myself hurting from addictions, broken families, lost opportunities, "The Four Spiritual Laws," a reading of excerpts from the Gospel of John, the "Romans Road" -- none of those are going to be of comfort or revelation to them. First, they have to know we are listening, understand them, and have the knowledge to help them.

Every person is different, and every person has to be understood before they can understand, and dare to believe. Once we have their confidence, then we can tell them the Truth that will set them free. They don't listen to people who don't care.

If we fail to understand that, we will never be effective in making the name of Jesus known. We may have some success here and there. We will not be someone others turn to for the Truth.
Unfortunately, there are more than just one like that in the world.
Maybe you could share with us how you present the gospel without having a conversation?

    That should be interesting ...

I'm pretty sure GreekTim meant that the emergent types use the buzzword "conversation" instead of words like witnessing, gospel presentation, share the gospel, etc.

    Yes...

And in fact, I either mis-read the OP quotation or it was edited, b/c I thought it was "help maximize the opportunity to be part of the conversation with people who are wanting to learn truth about God" in the singular.

PS: I'm sure thisnumberdisconnected and I are in agreement in terms of the emergent movement (not to be confused with the emerging church).

They are a minority in my area. In other states and areas they are a bigger force but not around here.

But here is one in my area

    GT,

I am confused. Please explain to me why the use of "conversation" is anathema for the evangelical community. Do you somehow regard it as a code word for churches, pastors and congregants who have gone astray? I like the word and use it often.

I think you are getting the gospel mixed up with meeting peoples needs. The gospel is not to be made relevant, that is the Emergent gospel and Rick Warren PD stuff. Jesus died for your sins and was resurrected to give you eternal life, how to you make that relevant according to their beliefs? What if they believe in Muhammad or Buddha or Joseph Smith or Colton Burpo's gospel....:tongue3: The gospel is not people, where did you learn that?

Not anathema, just a buzz word for the Maclaren crowd. That is why Carson used "conversant" in his book title. He was playing on one of their favorite terms.

It's just like "intertextual" is a buzzword for the OT in the NT crowd (like me; trying to learn to avoid it).

Thanks, I do not who Maclaren is, but would love to know if I am a member of his "crowd". How does one know this?

Here is one of his books: http://www.amazon.com/dp/0310258030/?tag=baptis04-20

If you are a postmodern Christian to the point of obscuranty (I may have made this word up), then you might be part of the emergent "conversation".

Just check out the subtitle of his book:

Just realized I've been spelling his name wrongly. It's McLaren.
