Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. (NASB)

I've been wondering how these verses would affect how we debate about issues that Bible believers differ?

They ought to change the way a church acts and interacts, but was wondering if the principles are not the same for a board like this.

IMHO, many if not most that post here are either venting, as in releasing pent up emotions, or, they just simply want to be heard.

Anyhoo, it's quite evident few are actually listening. :)

I'd put Hebrews along with the other Hebrew Epistles. They will again become
valuable when the Sect of the Nazarenes reappears during the Tribulation.
However, there may be a "principle" that we, as Gentiles,
should gather in groups, so that the Holy Spirit can minister.

Most Christian interaction occurs within the local church or as an extension of relationships established in the local church. A message board is a poor replacement for the local church.

In many ways message boards cater to those who have problems with relationships. Message boards serve a purpose greater than that, but those with incurable narcissism find a niche on places like the BB.

It is NO replacement for Church, but it IS an excellent place to sharpen the iron.

Meaning they come here to form relationships???? If I were to ever find myself becoming popular or accepted here on the BB I would have to immediately stop and re-assess what I've been writing. I am NOT here to form relationships or to be popular or accepted.

Especially of late, this is true.

Whoever wrote the book of Hebrews was writing to Jewish believers who were obviously struggling with their Jewish heritage and culture of worship and obedience standing in juxtaposition to their "by faith alone" salvation. The entire book is of great value to all believers in its arguments crushing legalism and adherence to a set of rules and regulations. It is of value now, in other words. It isn't sitting around waiting for its target audience.

Worse, many message boards -- this one being the first real exception I've seen -- don't really make a concerted effort to deal with unacceptable behavior. The mentally troubled are allowed to continue their diatribes with impunity, while the rational (if occasionally rancorous) responses from the other board members get warnings or collect punitive actions. I've often wondered why some people continue in their false doctrines, their arrogant responses, their universal "disacceptance" by others. In the face of all that is heaped upon them and shouted at them, they continue. Why? Then I remembered this dialogue exchange in "Batman Returns" between Alfred and Bruce Wayne, regarding what motivated The Joker:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/quotes Bruce Wayne: Criminals aren't complicated, Alfred. Just have to figure out what he's after.

Alfred Pennyworth: With respect Master Wayne, perhaps this is a man that
you don't fully understand, either. A long time ago, I was in Burma. My friends and I were working for the local government. We were trying to buy the loyalty of tribal leaders by bribing them with precious stones. But their caravans were being raided in a forest north of Rangoon by a bandit. So, we went looking for the stones. But in six months, we never met anybody who traded with him. One day, I saw a child playing with a ruby the size of a tangerine. The bandit had been throwing them away.

Bruce Wayne: So why steal them?

Alfred Pennyworth: Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Seems to me, there are a lot of Joker's in the world, some more dangerous than others. Let me make perfectly clear, I have met no "Jokers" on this board.

    NO!

ALL the bible was given as inspired from God to his people, and the ENTIRE NT books relate and are to be used by us for teaching/reprovong/correction/instruction!

    NOT JUST pauline letters!
