Hell or Hades?

    Alright, did some digging around, and found out that the ESV translates "hades" as "hell" several different times, such as in Matthew 5:22. We know that hades cannot be the lake of fire, because in Revelation, hades is cast into the lake of fire. Apparently the translating committee had the same misunderstanding I have?

    Hades - clearly understood to be the holding place for the unregenerate after natural death. Translated "hell" in ESV.

    Tarturos - occurs once in II Peter 2:4, clearly the holding place for the unregenerate after natural death. Translated "hell" in ESV.

    Gehenna - Not sure.
