I just started a Christian evangelical website, but I am wanting to make that just a part of a larger Christian community site. Does anyone have ideas, forum, chatroom, ect... and how to best get it on the site. Also, help with the look of the site. It is currently located at http://www.freewebs.com/interstate777

We started a mesageboard with our website for Sodom and Gomorrah. You can get one for free from http://www.proboards.com/index.html. We have not had problems with it yet.

First, I suggest getting a domain name. You can register a domain name through GoDaddy for about $9.20/year after all the fees. It's a very good investment for any site. Just don't fall for any of their add-ons that they try to trick you into buying along with the domain. Just a 1-year domain is all you need.

Next, you should hunt down a good web host. I suggest one that offers PHP and MySQL. Then you can install and setup a content management system (CMS) like phpNuke. These are really spiffy because you can integrate pre-made themes, forums, chatrooms, and other components into your site. It also makes posting articles and news very easy (once you get the hang of it). If you have a good web host, their customer support technicians can usually install one of these CMS's for you for free if you aren't too familiar with it yourself.

My friend and I operate a web hosting ministry called MiniHost.org, which helps provide like-faith Christian ministries with free web hosting with all the bells and whistles of a paid host. I could setup an account for you and install a few CMS's so you can try them out and see if that's what you are looking for.

You can find out more at http://www.minihost.org (please forgive the site, it's under construction- so a few links might not work and a few pages might look goofy).
