The thread on strapless dresses got me to thinking about this situation, namely, exactly how high or low should a woman's hemline be before it is considered to be "too high" and, thus be termed "immodest."

Considering the fact that perhaps some 75 years ago, society in general would have considered that a woman who exposed her ankles would have probably be looked up as being scandalous, where does one draw the line in stating that a woman's hemline is modest (or immodest)?

What are your thoughts on this?

If a woman is having to tug at the bottom of their skirt or dress when they sit in order not to be to revealing it is too short.

Really? You want to use this as an ad hominem to attack Fox News? Good grief.

And if that is the case why are you watching them do that? Where are your eyes going when you watch Fox News?

Since this is dealing with women only let's do it this way. Some men lust for women regardless what they wear. Even a burka will not stop a man from lusting who is battling serious lust. Such a man can lust for a woman even when none is around. That is an issue each man has to deal with personally and that is the extreme and I am not dealing with that here.

However the problem is from a biblical standpoint that most women, even those in the church, dress in a manner that draws special attention to their bodies in a sensual way. So whether it is a hemline, neckline, sleeve line, or any other line, tightness, or thinness, if it draws special attention to the woman's body it is immodest regardless of her intent.
Believe me a woman knows when she is drawing men's attention because of her clothing or lack there of. In such cases she is not just immodest, but immoral as she is a tempter.

One last thing. I know of men, even claimed Christian men, who expect their wives or girlfriends to dress in a manner that she shows off her body even if in a slightly hidden manner. Look but don't touch attitude. He too is immoral.

Yep. Both sexes are to blame for it. It is a sinful game.

Women have eyes and libidos also.

Men, how tight can those skinny jeans be before they are too tight and immodest on you? How come you leave those top two or three shirt buttons undone? Why if you have six pack abs do you wear those skin tight shirts to church?

Why do some of you older guys wear those walking shorts and then sit down with your legs spread wide open? Ever taken a picture and seen yourself, and what you display? Who are you trying to tempt?

Don't get me wrong--while I love my skirts and dresses, and wear MODEST pants and shorts around knee length--and totally agree women as a group need a modesty course ASAP, SO DO THE MEN.

When men lust, they have the problem. When women lust, women have the problem. But both sides need to invest, seriously, in a full length mirror that also shows the backside, and to THINK what they are wearing!

Interesting when a criticism is leveled again politics or gender or whatever there is someone who feels the need to bring up the opposite. Seems rather insecure.

I agree. It has to do with more than the length of the clothing, it has to do with modesty. Do we look more like someone trying to show off something, or someone who shows Jesus through their life?

All this make me think of an analogy.
A man walks into to a store - buys a one dollar candy bar - to pay he takes out a wad of 50 $20 bills - flashes them as he pulls one out for the purchase. Puts his money back into his shirt pocket - which of course is partial in view.

He walks out of the store, and a moment later, someone steals his money.

    Who is to blame -
    Whose fault is it?

I can't remember where, but somewhere in the Bible is a verse about the nakedness of the thigh?

I try to make sure that my skirts and shorts reach my knee. But with skirts you can still see up...I do the "bend over/arms raised/legs crossed" test. And then of course, if the hubby doesn't care for it...then that's that! Lol.
