You won't be able to interest everyone all of the time

try to use examples that are relevant to where the youth are in their daily lives. I personally am so sick of going to sunday school where week after week we *high school girls* are to look forward to going and getting married right out of high school or soon after. I really am tired of hearing how to be a submissive wife... all I want to do is follow my dreams and that doesn't mean my dream is teh same one Cinderella sings about.

rant over... just showing you where me, as a teen, is tired of going LOL

I would echo unashamed youth by saying, talk about things that relate to what we as teens face on a daily basis... [IMG]
Also, we are at the age where we are starting to make choices and have convictions. Talk about how we as teens should take a stand and about developing a relationship with Christ.

Just talk about the Lord and share His word. Pray over what you're gonna speak on, and then what God lays on your heart, say it!
Now me personaly, I have no particular preferance over what someone is teaching on in the Bible as long as it IS the Bible! I just plain love hearing it!
Mainly, I'd say just make sure you have things right with God before you teach {no one can fight a spiritual battle if they are in the flesh} and seek God's will in what you teach on. Pray over it, and uh, it'd be a real good idea to study it before you speak on it {one of my friends is called to preach and the first time he preached he preached somewere around seven minutes....told me later that he at the time didn't know he was suposed to study what he was speaking on first! :D } Course I'm sure you already know about the study part! I'm probably not saying anything new to you, but this would just be my opinion on it.

Actually a first time sermon doesn't last all that long so he shouldn't feel bad I know a guy who studied for 3 weeks... timed his sermon at 30 mins... and then did one in 8 LOL it just goes faster...

as for the studying that reminds me of something Mark Lowry once said....

"Now the preacher gets up and preaches a 2 hour message... and if he studied he'd have been done in 20 minutes" LOL

Good studies, most of the ones out there are not very good.

Where are the foundational principles in today's youth sermons? Dead to sin, Holy life, producing fruit, how to study the Bible...

Hehe, well you wouldn't know it was the same person if you heard his first message, and hear one from him now. He's learned a lot. A WHOLE lot! I can't get over how he takes a verse of scripture, takes it apart and explains it peice by peice, and then puts it all back together again. He never fails to teach me something, even if I'm just talking to him. Half the time he dosn't realize I've learned from him either.
And thank the Lord he tells things just as they are when he preaches. No beating around the bush.
I tell him we need more like him, and he says I'm crazy, coures he's said we need more of me, and I told him he needed to check his head! Seriously though, he amazes me. Or I should say what God did with his life amazes me.
Now however he DOES take studying seriously! :D That's a VERY good thing!
