I was in the US Air Force and handle a great deal of classified information.
I was stationed on the BMEWS (Ballistic Missile Early Warning System), a line of intel stations running from upstate NY to Thule Greenland watching the Russians.

If I misplaced even one document it was VERY serious . Why?

Because no one knew where it might be - under my bed, shuffled away in my bureau, in RUSSIA, CHINA, or who knows where.

If the one document was not found I would have ALWAYS been subject to suspicion and possibly even discharged or assigned to permanent KP to wash dishes until my tour was up.
