    Baptists, Pentecostals Seek Common Ground

Among those representing Baptists was Timothy George, dean of Beeson and contributing editor of the Founders Journal.

just hope that the baptists are conservative in this meeting, and that the pentacostalists are NOT the heretical WoF/health and wealth gang!

Baptists have done a lot of damage concerning the work of the Holy Spirit in believers by instilling a "fear" of the H.S.

I remember when I was sharing a spiritual experience with IBF members that they interrupted me, saying "You didn't speak in tongues, did you?".

Pentecostals have done a lot of damage concerning the work of the Holy Spirit as well by overemphasizing tongues and permitting faking of tongues.

If they were from the BWA, they wouldn't have been conservative.

So much for reasoning together in love. Judgements and condemnations will fly!

Sounds like a receipe for spiritual disaster brewing here...

IF its a liberal in doctrine baptist group interacting with a "non biblical" based charasmatic group...

Now IF we were able to get a meeting between sound conservative baptists and non heretical groups that recognized the hereseys within the faith movement, we just might have something!

Are you unaware that your church's own North American Baptist Conference is a member body of this Baptist World Alliance?

I'm going to be interested in what form this "walking together" will take, for those participants in the summit. Until then, I'll reserve judgment.

I am sure it's been said many times before - I myself have said it several times: Baptist church are not hierarchical. The unit is the local church. No dioceses, deaneraries, provinces, circuits, so how can there be a "Summit" of baptists and others?

By no means all baptist churches belong to the Baptist World Alliance, and I would imagine (though I am not certain) that the same would be true about pentecostal churches and the Pentecostal World Fellowship.

    Iwas not!....

What caused the 'falling out" between the churches within that group and say the SBC?

The SBC withdrew in 2004 in a snit over membership being extended to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.

The SBC withdrew because the WBF was allowing membership of liberals that think homosexuality is OK, women pastors are OK, and other liberal stances.
