Amy is not only a great preacher, she is a great person and administrator. I have been fortunate to have heard her preach on several occasions. Amy is a graduate of Baylor University, the International Baptist Theological Seminary and Wesley Theological Seminary.

What is Progressive Christianity? Did it change since Jesus walked the earth?

No, Jesus was progressive as he was inclusive in his ministry. In his time the Pharisees probably considered him a radical. A progressive Baptist may hold to the same theological truths as a fundamentalists, but do not approach that theology narrowly, but are willing to meet all people where they are and to work with them. In other words, meet the sinner [all of us] where they are and bring the truth to them ... do not exclude them simply because I or we do not agree with them or like their lifestyle.

You can see for yourself that one of the hero's of "Progessive Christianity" is Bishop Sponge.

First I use the word Christianity loosely here because there is nothing Christian about what they do. They are an offense to Christ and the Kingdom of God.

Second here are a few quotes from one of their hero's Sponge:

"Christianity is, I believe, about expanded life, heightened consciousness and achieving a new humanity. It is not about closed minds, supernatural interventions, a fallen creation, guilt, original sin or divine rescue."

"I think that anything that begins to give people a sense of their own worth and dignity is God."

"Christianity is not about the divine becoming human so much as it is about the human becoming divine. That is a paradigm shift of the first order."

"I think the best way to view the Gospels is to view them as a magnificent portrait being painted by Jewish artists to try to capture the essence of a God experience that they believe they had with Jesus of Nazareth."

"The way you become divine is to become wholly human."

"I find that children have very little trouble understanding non-literal stories."

"I never really liked the Gospel of John because I never could find the humanity of Jesus in it. I thought it presented Jesus as a visitor from another planet; in addition, John's gospel is and has been interpreted as a document that fuels anti-Semitism in the church."

"There is no way that the Fourth Gospel was written by John Zebedee or by any of the disciples of Jesus. The author of this book is not a single individual, but is at least three different writers/editors, who did their layered work over a period of 25 to 30 years."

If I were a child of Tibet or of Arabia, I suspect the path I'd walk would be the Buddhist path or the Muslim path. And I don't mind saying that I don't invalidate any of those paths."

"Let me say that I consider myself a deep believer in the reality of God. I might define God quite differently from the way some people in the Christian faith would do so, but I do not doubt the reality of that experience."

"Perhaps the most telling witness against the claim of accurate history for the Bible comes when we read the earliest narrative of the crucifixion found in Mark's gospel and discover that it is not based on eyewitness testimony at all."

"The God of the Hebrews is a God that human language, we're not even supposed to speak the holy name. We were told in the Second Commandment we could make no images of this God, and I don't think that means just building idols, I think that means also trying to believe you've captured God in your words, in the Creeds, in the Scriptures."

That is what progressive Christianity looks like and it is evil.

Okay. It still seems like if Jesus did it, then PROGRESSIVE is the wrong word for it.

If "progressives" are doing what Jesus did, how is that progressive? Just curious.

Now back to Amy. ABSOLUTELY not. This just always authors confusion that is NOT of GOD. God has not intended for the husband to be the head of his home with his wife and kids in submission to him, only to turn around and say now go to MY house and I want you to submit to your wife.

God has an order for EVERYTHING. One of the easiest ways to know that something is NOT of God is when it's done out of the Biblical order and when it authors confusion about something else God has directed us to do.

You said that in jest, but actually it is an excellent question.

Jesus is still progressive, even radical as He is still far ahead of us in his teachings and in how He would like us to understand and treat each other.

    This really isn't "news."

Since Riverside Church was founded by Rockefeller and Fosdick, it has never been "orthodox" in belief.

What would be news, on the other hand, is if Riverside called Al Mohler, Lig Duncan, or Mark Dever to be pastor--THAT would be news.

The Riverside Church was founded on something other than the Word of God, and they are just being true to their own infidelity.

Look, I'm against women preachers (cause the scriptures are clear), but I at least have to give her props on one thing, it sounds like she's at least getting a higher attendee/member ratio at 50%, than the average SBC church does (in 2012 it was 38%). Sounds like she started out in a hole to begin with as well.

The church started out with 5,000 members/attendees before it dwindled to 70. She managed to get it up to 350, and that was most likely a combination of the novelty of a female "pastor" at a Baptist church, and the makeup of the pseudo-believers that would be attracted to a liberal church. She may have been "an" answer, she wasn't "the" answer. Nor will she be at Riverside.

So they want to make a divorced female their pastor? SMH. The historic Riverside Church is gonna be history. But apparently they've had and still have a problem with Scripture.
